Trigger weight on AR?

Considering lightening up the heavy (maybe 8#) trigger on my Ruger AR. What trigger are you using and what weight?

A hunting application. My bolt action hunting rifles don’t get below 2 pounds and 3 to 3 1/4 doesn’t bother me much. Not sure if that applies to this action but if so, a single stage I assume or two stage? I‘m not sure why I would want one over the other.

Going from an 8lbs trigger, anything is going to be better! LOL

I've been tuning Aero nickel boron 2 stages to 1.8-2lbs on the 2nd stage with Geissele purple hammer springs. If you know how to tune that's an option.

I just got in a Rise Armament ICONIC 2 stage. It's all of 2.75lbs break on the 2nd stage.

Geissele, Larue MBT are sweet triggers

ALG ACT for a single stage at 4.5lbs if that is more up your alley.

Once upon a time I dabbled in Service Rifle and put a Geissle service rifle trigger in one and since then I've been pretty well standardized all my ARs with them. Yea, you can get lighter than 4.5, but a 2 stage with a 2# second stage is nice. I put the cheaper G2S in mine. Now all my ARs feel and shoot the same.

You won't go wrong with a Rise RA-140 drop in trigger. They are single stage, non adjustable, weight falls in the 3-3 1/2# range. There could be a new product # for it now. Same trigger. Great hunting trigger. 2 stage are nice for target but I absolutely hate them for hunting.

Looking for a CHEAP trigger with a nice pull look no further that the ALG line... Basically stock , tuned triggers that work well... Want to spend more on better , look at her husbands triggers , geissele triggers...

All of my triggers are single stage.
I just threw that link in there.
A lot of great single stage triggers for AR's out there.
Do a little research and find one that will just drop in.
You can go lighter, if you are willing to spend more.
Here's a nice single stage drop-in. 3lbs.

Timney makes several that will fall in the 1.5 lb range..Calvin Elite and another 3 gun trigger.
the Calvin Elite has a strong enough hammer spring for 308s.

If this is for an AR...
Almost any cartridge trigger is leaps and bounds ahead of factory. I have tried quite a few and would recommend a Rise Armament Rave 140 for a solid and (relatively) cheap replacement. It is a consistent 3 pound weight and has very little overtravel and a clean break. It is a good replacement trigger at a good price point.
That being said, I prefer the Elftman 3 gun trigger. The best cartridge trigger system I have tried hands down.

Over the decades shooting service rifles withh 4.5 pound triggers, can't see going any lighter for field guns.

I've put two of these in my kids rifles over the last two years, and I think for the price they're great. For my service rifles, I stick with the stock Rock River Arms 2 stage triggers, to meet the trigger weight rules.

These are solid triggers. With a purple ALG hammer spring the trigger pull is 1.75-2lbs.
