Berger 195 eol 1-9 twist

Wanting to try these in my 28 nosler I had built. My barrel is a 1-9 twist. Has anyone tried these in a 1-9 and did they stabilize?? Thanks

The chart below is from the Berger Stability Calculator. You may get round hole and decent groups but your BC is suffering.

Another consideration is the chamber itself. These bullets can require a longer throat and/or freebore to accommodate these longer bullets. They are not plug and play.

Enjoy!

:)

Yes sir I plugged that in to with my elevation and came up with this. My chamber is .225 freebore if I remember right 60720F8C-C10E-41D5-B06E-34E2006E628F.png

180g Berger vld hunting is where you should be with the 9T for up to 1600 yards at least....run the numbers and see where the cross over point is where the 195 starts to pay off.

Don't be surprised if a 168g vld hunting offers better ballistics up to 1200 yards and perhaps a tad further..

Have been looking in to the 168 vld. If I could get good speed out of it. It might be the way to go

I had them shooting like a laser in my 7mm 270 in the European championships last year In September..
In the November the frosty mornings killed it.
I'd say yes in warmer weather..
No in the cold..
I'd say a 1 in 8.25 would be perfect because my saum shoots the 195s superbly at 100fps slower than my 7mm 270

That’s kinda what I figured. It would all depend on the conditions

I use them in a few 7 RUM's with Bartlein 8.4 twist barrels that are throated correctly. They have shot very well.

I've got a new 7mm saum barrel in a 1 in 8.5t and it shot the 195s very small in testing..
I've not tried it at range yet as it was quite slow on the new powder lot compared too the old..
60 too 70fps slower..
I've chronographed some more stepping up the charge by 1gr and no pressure..
I'd like it very much if they shoot at the higher speed with the same accuracy.

It shows a minimum 1 in 9 on the 195 elite hunter box.
Bergers twist rate calculator tells a different story..
I didn't know that at the time..
When you find a load that was capable of sub 0.5 minutes at 1000yds you want too keep shooting them..
I found out the hard way in a big comp..

Thanks for all the info. With the price of bullets and powder now days. I think I will just stick with the 180 hybrids or the 180 vlds. Something I know will stabilize.

A 1:9 usually works. The only time I had a 1:9 NOT work, was on a cold, damp and humid winter day near sea level outside of Houston. Those conditions combined for the densest air I have shot a .284 in, and the bullets were unstable and shot as big as 4-5 moa at 1,000.

Agree above, that BC may also suffer from yaw at the stability margins before conspicuously wandering off target.

If you came up with a 1.43 SG. the bullet is stable. BUT you have compromised the BC of the bullet so you may see more effect on the bullet at 600 yards and out by the wind, ETC due to the loss of BC. Also be sure to use the compromised BC G7 number when doing any ballistic charting.

Those figures were mine based on my new 1 in 8.50t bartlein and the twist rate calculator suggests I was losing 2% of the bullets bc and it recommended a 1 in 8.25 twist for the 195s..
I agree on 1.43 will be stable and shoot well..
Enter the figures in for a 1 in 9 and it will be a much lower figure..
