My new “adult” Red Rider!

30-30. I bought an old JM Marlin last fall and found a bunch of brass for it. The Winchester is lighter and sleeker. It was made in 1961. Just before they went to cast receivers and paint. It’s amazing how light this gun feels after lifting all my bench guns. I may go Cowboy.

Id like to have a good old top eject winchester

When I was a kid, I got to where I could hit a bird in flight with my trusty Red Rider without aiming. I have a new Winchester, 400 empty cases and 1000 Berry 150s. My plan is to shoot this gun until it feels like my old BB gun. Thanks @ryanjay11 ! I feel like a kid again! Now...where’re my glasses.....View attachment 1385006
are you gonna practice on airborne targets with that to ??

@joshb
I have 2 of these. Great rifles. I remember the first time I had one in my hands. I was a kid around 1961. My cousin was a lighthouse keeper on the east coast. He let me hold one of his. My knees got weak. Had always seen these in Gunsmoke and other westerns and finally had one in my hands.

I will modify a Jeremiah Johnston movie quote a little bit, “he wanted a 38 caliber but settled for a 30 but by gosh it was a Genuine Winchester, you can’t go no better” Nice snag!! you know I’d like to have one of those too maybe I will start looking!

I found one in a friends house that had the roof blown off after the hurricanes we had in 2004. It was in a soaking wet soft rifle case and had been in there for 6 weeks. the fabric on the inside of the case had rusted into the metal and in several places even after sandblasting twice it had the cross hatched pattern of the fabric weave etched into the gun. After lots of cleaning and oil and reassembly I KG guncoated it and the barrel had been so dirty it was preserved. It shot very good. A few years later my friend had a heart attack and died. He son now has the rifle. Another friend gave me another basket case i just haven't had time to rebuild it, i hope it shoots as well as the last one. And 6BR may be right a 38 special may be better in the plinker roll.

Well I fell in love with lever guns from watching black and white westerns as a kid I did not own one until I 34th birthday? It was 2 years before Remington bought Marlin. The serial number puts it 5 years before Remington bought them but I she physically bought it 2 years before Remington bought them.

In fact my eye sight was still better than 20/20 back then and at 100 yards with iron sights I could hit anything I could see with it and cheap Remington UMC Walmart/Meijers 45-70 ammo.

Now I am getting ready for my first set of bifocals. LOL So I tossed on an NOS American Made 3X9 Burris Fullfield back before they off shored them!
