A really nice guy that does my A/C maintenance asked me if I could help him get his Grandfather’s old gun shooting. I said “Sure” and he told me it was a Winchester lever in 25-20. I spent hours on the Internet searching for brass and bullets to no avail. Then, two fine members here answered my WTB post. One had bullets and another guy had brass. The guy that had brass needed 6 br brass. I gritted my teeth and made the deal on a trade. A box of new Lapua went into the mail. Any body that knows me knows I’m a brass black hole. I take in all I can find and rarely give any up. It wasn’t easy but it’s for a good cause, I told myself.
The guy came over yesterday with his gun, so I could give it a once over inspection to make sure it was still safe to shoot. It was a pretty old Winchester but it was in mint condition on the outside. The barrel was lightly pitted but still shootable. He was happy and I started his first lesson in reloading.
Just before he left, he brings in a box and drops it on my desk. He says “My neighbor died and his son gave me this box of brass. I don’t need it so it’s yours.”
:):):);):):):)
In the box are 300 + primed TW 30-06 cases, 50 303 British cases and.......150 LAPUA 6.5x55 cases!!!
50 of them are brand spanking new!
I think I’ll continue doing good deeds.

I give all of my scrap auto body metal to a gentleman who sells it to finance his fishing addiction he hauls scrap wherever he can pick it, one day he shows with a box from RCBS a brand new rock chucker supreme press said someone threw it out the box was a little beat up but the press was perfect he refused to take anything for it.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!

Josh, sure glad that I didn't know that you needed 25-20. I have new brass and bullets for my 25-20 Rolling Block. My niece needed some AR ammo. I loaded 200 rounds for her with help from my good Bud, Nez "BAMBAN". He came up with a lot of brass, I traded Randy for the 52gr Bibs, gunclub friend let me have an 8 pounder of Varget for what he paid for it at Camp Perry several years ago. Yes, there are some great folks out there, but you need to pay it back. I've had several guys from this forum that are just great.

Josh B, Kracken is right it couldn't have happened to a better guy. But help me out what are AW 30-06 cases
The date on them was 42. The box had notes in it that mentioned “03-A3” Another box had “M1” in the load note, so I’m thinking it’s old Military brass.

Many years ago contractors working for the county were repaving streets and putting in new
concrete curbs. It was a very hot summer and the days they were working on my small dead end block my wife would bring out pitchers of ice water for the workers.

A few days after they finished paving my block some guy with a hardhat and a clipboard walks over to
me as I am washing my car and asks me if this was the house that was giving ice water to the workers.

I said yes why, he looks around and says you know what you can use a new side walk make sure no car is parked by the curb Monday.

Good deeds sometimes do get rewarded.

Yes, that means 1942.

Anneal it and load it. It will be fine.
I’ll try to load some first. It’s all primed! The brass definitely has history. Made at the start of WW II.
Probably has a better alloy than Lapua Gold!

I’m researching reduced loads with H4895 and 4198 to use in my old 03-A3. I’ve been wanting to shoot it but my old shoulder won’t let me shoot full loads. It will be easier on the old gun too, I think.

My 03’ has not seen a jacketed bullet in 30+ years. I have used a dozen different mold designs and weights. Powder, Unique,2400,5744,SR4759,4895 and others I don’t recall at the moment. The old war horse is just a lot of fun, not hard on the shoulder or the pocket either.

FYI, I used Wipeout for a long time to get the layers of carbon and gilding metal out of it. Probably over a dozen times in several months. The bore is one of the better I have seen. Most will clean up very well. Also, plug the bore and stand it up muzzle down in a gallon size can and fill it up with Kroil and forget about it. The can is a safety precaution in case of a leak, don’t ask me how I know, lol.
The Kroil will get between the layers and a lot of them will curl up, run a bronze brush through first as a tight jag and patch may get hung up, don’t ask about that either……..

Josh, I worked up some 120 grain 7x57mm with IMR 4198 for light recoil. I got good firm pressure and approx 2500 fps, with about 40% less powder than a full power load. If you don't have Quick load or GRT, shoot me a PM and I could maybe help get a starting point for you
