New Charter Arms 357 revolver going in for warranty.

Last week i bought a new Charter Arms Professional in 357 Magnum.
It's the stainless, 3" barrel with rosewood grips.

Loaded some 38 Special, 38 Special +P, and 357 Mag durring the week.
CCI Magnum primers.
Sierra 125gr JHP.

Went to the range today. Only 6 out of 12 rounds fired.
Looking at the primers, it looks like light primer strikes.
Compared the spent & unfired rounds to my neighbors 357 Mag cases.
Definite light primer strikes.

Really unnerving when you pull the trigger & get "click"!!!

Now i get to find out how good Charter Arms warranty is.

Have you tried any loads with standard primers/ not magnum?

You might save yourself the hassle of a return by doing a couple of simple fixes.. Look under the grips to see if things are clean & moving freely. With the grips off make sure the firing system trigger & transfer is also clean & free of manufacturing debris. Last check the firing pin itself. Look at it. I hope that helps you. mike in ct.. Ps. You can test your work with just primed cases.

I'm using the same batch of primers in 9mm. No issues with either my Walther PPS, or H&K VP9.

Also make sure the primers are getting seated firm with the anvil bottoming out to the case. I have seen that be the case of miss fires in both rile and pistol reloads.

I did ensure that the primers were fully seated.
Barely a dimple in the primer cup.

I had thought about checking what i could instead of sending it in.
But with my luck, i wouldn't be able to make any improvements & would void any warranty by taking it apart myself.

I had to replace my CA 38 main spring for the same reason when I shot double action. Single action was OK. And, I have always shot CCI.

It's giving light strikes on both double & single action.

Was hoping to get hold of them by now, but work has once again gone crazy.
Hoping to call them tomorrow.

Just a thought, but have you tried factory ammo? Perhaps your primer seating is at fault? Might save messing with the manufacturer.

Talked to Charter Arms today.
Appearantly they are having issues with light strikes.
They are sending me a "heavier spring".
Not sure which spring...

But i guess i get to learn how to take a revolver apart.

cool, practice on that Charter Arms or a Ruger revolver before you try fussin w/ a S&W or a Colt. That Main spring strut can use some polishing. The sides of the trigger & the Hammer must be free of burrs. Do not fuss with any of the mating trigger sear hammer connecting edges .. Not on your first go around. Have fun learning. Mike

Yep. That's why I haven't bought factory ammo for anything other than 12-gauge shotguns and .22 LR in over 50 years. Don't shoot enough shotgun to make it worth while, but every rifle and handgun I have owned in that time frame I bought with dies and components at the same time unless I already had them.

I gave my test loads to my neighbor to try in his Taurus.

Solves 2 issues with 1 stone.
1) i can't find the bullets he wants, so he's trying a different weight.
2) proves it's my gun & not my reloads.

Heard back from him.
He likes the heavier bullets & they all shot fine.

Update....

Talked to a lady at Charter Arms on Nov. 7tth. She wanted to send me the heavier (green) mainspring to try, before sending the revolver in.

I called again on Nov. 17th. as i had not recieved the new spring yet.
Was told the lady that i originally talked to was "no longer there".
He took my info and said he would ship the spring.

Got the spring. Took the grips off and sat there looking at the original green spring already in the revolver.

Installed the new spring anyways, checking for proper alignment.

In a moment of great wisdom, i grabbed an empty 38spcl casing & put a new primer in. (You see where this is going, right?)
Put the primer blank in the revolver to test the new spring & pulled the trigger.

Holy FRAK was that loud in my basement!!

But much better primer indent.
