Grizzly or Precision Mathew’s

Parts can be a problem for any break-down these days, no matter what machine or device. Buy either a Griz or PM and have a problem requiring a new 'part' and you may find yourself waiting. The worlds a changing, and it may never return to what we knew. The same might be said for a used piece of "old American iron".

Until supply chain issues are fixed, we are in for long waits on many items. Even American made new stuff.

550 v 3 phase

That's kind of an oddball voltage here in the States?

550v is the canadian equiv to out 480v. They use it in the same places we would have 480. You can run it on 480 but the current will be a bit high and shorten its life. If you dont have 480 available youll need to just replace the motor with the correct voltage

Here's a question. If you only have 240v single phase and want to run a 3 phase motor using a vfd does the 3 phase motor need to be a 240v 3phase?

It needs to be 3P, yes. The voltage could be 200-240, etc. The VFD allows you to set the voltage, 200, 220, 240. At least the Hitachi VFD’s I’ve worked with do.

Heres a pic of my lathe setup. It uses a .125 carbide end mill.
Dusty, here's my upgrade. With a flex shaft you can rule the world!

Is there a thread/video anywhere demo'ing how you do it? I'm interested in seeing the process
I have a one lathe with a milling attachment which replaces the compound tool rest. The barrel is held in the milling attachment, the cutting tool (end mill) is held in a tool holder in the lathe spindle (3MT). It's been years since I've done it. Sorry, no pictures but I hope that brief description gives you an idea.

I have a flex shaft and one of those foredom tools. There was something about the flex shaft i didnt like in this application but i cant remember what it was. My flex shaft came in one of those kits that had a bunch of other stuff ill never use

while may be true - can we keep one thread on topic lately please.

This is BEYOND relavant to this thread. Any discussion of the geopolitics of Asia is actually a consideration.

If you can get a machine at all, parts are non existent for the imports. So the allure of a new import for current production parts availability is out the window.

You should check out my DRO machine thread.

PM stocks at least some parts for their machines. If you're seriously concerned about it (I would be) It's worth calling both and asking what they keep on hand for the machine you're buying.
