Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

That Ruger proably saved your hand or finger back in the day we had a Cougar a Security Six with a Python barrel the best of both. If you wanted to shoot 357mag Ruger was the only game in town !

Good Morning!

I am Mark. New the site as of yesterday. Recently retired and finally have some time to begin reloading after nearly 10 years absence. Primary focus initially is bottlenecks for hunting purposes. Handgun calibers to follow.

I have actually thought the same thing ABM. I am convinced that the Ruger saved my finger(s) or hand. When the overcharged load went off, the gun kicked like a bucking bronco, and I was shocked it held together. I remember thinking, "Am I OK?". Then I looked at the pistol and saw it was undamaged. The only issue was that the cartridge was seized within the cyllender. Many other revolvers would not have stood up to that load. If I ever go back to progressive loading with my "Piggyback" on top of the Rock Chucker press, I willd definitely use a powder checker. But honestly, I really enjoy single stage reloading. The "fun" for me with reloading is not volume. It's precision and methodic stage loading one step at a time. I'm in no hurry. It's fun to spend hours at the reloading bench. No reason to rush it.

Hello, All:

New member here as of last week. I've been reading for awhile now and decided to join the community.

Main reason I stumbled upon the forum is that I inherited a .250 Savage Ackley Improved rifle (amongst others) from my FIL. When he passed (before I started dating his daughter) his reloading dies/powder/bullets/etc went to fellow enthusiasts that he knew.

I have his RCBS RC Press, RCBS Primer Tool, RCBS Case Trimmer Tool, Bar Scale, and other random reloading items. Found the Ackley (40Degree) dies at Midway as part of a three (3) die set from Redding. I knew nothing of the Ackley Improved firearms/cartridges prior to meeting my wife.

With no idea at all of load date for this firearm/cartridge, I took to the Internet and ended up here! Glad to be here and look forward to picking your brains, potentially offering up ideas, and generally just learning more about reloading and the .250 Savage Ackley Improved

So far I've read most of Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders (Volume 1) by Ackley himself, joined Load Data, and other various Internet Searches and ended up with a few rounds to start with.

Happy to be here!

Ackley is a blast from the far past !
I have had my RCBS Rockchucker Press since 1972 the only press I have ever had. Ditched that Uniflow powder measure quickly in favor of 10-10 scales and later RCBS Chargemaster.
Still have my trusty 10-10 scales as back up !
My Rockchucker will go with me to heaven for more reloading to do !

Forster Co-ax
HP Trimmer
Hornady Dispenser
Annealeez

I don't know how to use any of it. I'm learning as I go and hoping to pick up tips and tricks from yall. Thank you!

Morning,

I am new here to the site, just trying to absorb some knowledge. I have been loading on a progressive press for a little while, recently started loading my rifle rounds on a turret press.

Hello everyone! Randy here from South Carolina, excited to join the conversation. My preference is 6.5 in all things, I have my own machine shop, build my own rifles, and reload. I shoot 6.5-284 Norma, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 x55 swed, and 6.5 grendel. I plan to add other 6.5s to my collection in the future.

Good evening all from the UK.
Currently only reloading .308 Win for Stalking but I do find the process of load development kind of adictive and have been quietly looking at the options of target shooting here in the UK.
Been following the forum on Induction Annealing with the hope of putting a machine together this winter, there certainly seems a wealth of knowledge here.
Regards.
Sean.

Thanks for allowing me to join.

I shoot a few rifles in slightly unusual chamberings. I started shooting in the UK, but moved to the USA nearly 7 years ago, in no small part to be able to shoot and hunt more.

I don't shoot as much as I would like, and I play a little game with myself that every firearm I buy has to be useable for hunting where I live (Pocono mountains of NE PA).

Nearly 100% of the ammunition I shoot is what I load myself (except rimfires, but I really don't shoot much of that). I strive for accuracy, and occasionally achieve it!

My most recent firearm acquisition is an "Australian" BSA Martini that has had its chamber reamed from 310 Cadet to 32 Win Spl. It functions fine with the 7 rounds of factory that I have been able to find and run through it, but is not pleasant to shoot! So the first things you'll likely see me asking about is how to create some more manageable loading for it...

That's about me for now!

Hi,
I am new to the forum and found this site while looking for plates for my 4X4 Auto press. I am an avid hand loader and use the following presses
RCBS 4X4 Auto,
Dillon Square Deal B,
RCBS Rock Chucker,
Hornady Classic,
Lyman Turret,
and two Lee Pro 1000 presses.

I have been loading and shooting for 50 years. I was once involved heavily with wildcats, but I now do my long-range work with 45-70, 338Lup, and 340 Wby. As for handgun use, 45 Colt and 45 ACP have replaced all the others as my go-to calibers.

I joined this forum as it looks like a good site for information, supplies, and resource sharing.

Regards,
RH

PS: I am also big into Civil War artillery.... My guns have wheels!

Hi all, newbie from Oregon, first off I must say very humble to be able to post hear. While waiting for approval took the time to search your archive. I can see your' all very series shooters, thinking that I don't have anything to bring to the table sad to say. My reload bench (Hand Guns) was collecting dust for over twenty years now. Been shooting muzzleloader the last twenty-five years with a club in Oregon. This summer the two grand kids from up north stop in to shoot digger squirrels at the ranch with air rifle. The youngest 14 year old was showing me pictures of conical bullets on his smart phone that he had cast for his .58 cal musket (brown Best). I've never shot a bullet in a muzzleloader before just round ball. Well I guest just wanting to do something with the grand kids decided to build a muzzleloader to shoot bullets to hunt with. I ended up contouring and installing a hook breach on a Green Mountain 27 inch blank barrel 1:28 .50cal-.510. I had little time, as the grand kids were schedule to stop by to say hi and sight in their riflescope before deer season. So grand kids arrive sighted in their rifle, I broke out the almost finish muzzleloader that never been shot because of time frame. After sighted in with round ball switch to several types of bullets, it was a disaster bullet flying everywhere and 2 trips to my shop to dislodge stuck bullet in barrel when loading. So I took a big back step and through video and searching forum I got my reloading down but those conical bullets and flat base flat noise still flying everywhere. So more researching found round nose cup base no lube groove style bullets for paper patching. Big improvement but rounds are not cheap from Buffalo Arms Co. So I plan on casting & swaging my own bullets. I took some old pistol dies & bullet molds modified them to cast & swage a cup base flat noise paper patch bullet but I want to make those Buffalo Arms round noise cup base bullet for paper patching. They stock for .50 cal (.492 dia) in 450,500,550,600 and 650-grain bullet. So when I post most likely will be looking for loading data for paper patching & Lube groove bullets, thanks. Free Trapper

Hello... I feel like NOS here.... I used to be on here years ago, but somehow lapsed. My old account has died, so....... I'm baaack... and happy to be here.

I reload for several calibers, and have been doing so for about 50 years or so.

Just a brief "hello" as I continue to browse around....
