Powder prices at the Local Gun Sore

Stopped at the LGS today and they had about 10 lbs each of Varget and H4350. But......
The H4350 was $79.99/lb and the Varget was $89.99/lb. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
What prices are you folks seeing for high demand powders like this? I was astonished and agitated to say the least.

Just look at the what the big box companies like Powder Valley, MidSouth, Midway, ect are asking for it. I know PV is selling both of the powders that u mentioned for 45 bucks for 1 pounders but naturally they don't have any.

Recobs target shop has it for $43 per lb, has been in stock for several days. I have not seen any locally in a while but those prices you posetd are higher than I have seen other hodgdon powders sell for. I have loads developed that I really like for a 22-250 amd a 308 that use varget and I bought a bunch when it was “expensive” at over $25 per pound!!! Ohh the humanity!! If I was starting over today I would be looking for an alternative, and I think most could find one just fine, especially with ramshot powders around $30 per pound and available.

And that right there is the problem. I could sell my 8 pounders for 2 bucks (if I had any). You can charge whatever price you want for something you don't have.

EVERYTHING cost more today... food, fuel etc.

As much as many groan about the powder and primer shortage and the current prices (I do as well) .... I think this go round, the prices are not returning to what they were a couple of years ago for a long time, .... maybe never.

Like it or don't ... you want to continue shooting, ... you see it ... you buy it.

High price today is a bargain tomorrow

Yes you are right the prices will never return to where they were it never has in the past and it never will in the future. All that's going to happen is that the prices will increase every year like it always has. Just look at the flat rate postal boxes. The girl informed me a week and a half ago that they are going up in price again like it aways has.

What I have often wondered about when places like Powder Valley (whom I really like because of their fair and honest pricing) send email notices saying," we have xxx." What time zones get that first? I'm thinking if the East coast gets the news before the people in California, that's a great advantage.
Just a thought.

Back in July, I bought an 8lb jug of Varget locally, for $325. I was happy that I could get it. The price made me cringe for about half a second. I had not seen Varget in 2 years. They had 1 lb jugs of H4895 in September. I got 3 lbs at $60 per lb. The prices are high, unfortunately. But, if I didn't buy it, someone else would.

If they have it, powder is running about $32 to $35 / lbs. at my local gun shop in Lebanon, PA. Bought some 231-pistol powder last week and some popular rifle powders.

No - they don't accept phone or internet orders, only over the counter sales.

As long as people keep paying the higher price, YES.
Once it stops, prices will fall.
I have been in the distribution business for over 4 decades and have seen this cycle repeat in many times.
I have watched prices increase and fall to below where they were in years past many, many times.

I got into reloading at the onset of Covid..horrible time to start. All these prices have been mine, and many others' entry cost. You could say that I could hold off and not purchase, but I don't have that option. I'm not going to hold off my hobbies for however long it would take for that to happen. I'm young, and I want to take advantage of that.. hunting, matches, all of it. So I will pay what it is to get it rather than not. Others are in the same situation, we didn't have the luxury of getting into it at a decent time, and we have to live with the conditions the way they are to actually be able to even participate.
