Any Duck Hunters?

Pretty woodies. We dont see many ducks anymore. No-till has changed everything. We used to get a swing from the flyways until they moved peanut farming out of here. We just shot ducks-didnt need to hunt them. Enjoy it while you can!

Son and college buddies will go out before classes duck hunting!!! He went to Webster SD for internship with the DNR basically chasing geese off farmers crops. They put up electric fences, propane cannons, and they did shoot a few. For a week they help band geese. I replied goose was better looking!!

do not get started duck hunting, its horrible and will lead to divorce, the end of your career, lost friends, STD's and other bad things.......

you will die with the following list of things. 424 decoys, because 423 was not enough. Boats, lots of boats. most of them leak a lot but mostly float for a 6hr day with only moderate bailing needed. Worn out shotguns with huge amounts of damage from mud and crud and water. 5 pair of leaking waders. a lanyard of calls, most of witch you can not make sound like a duck. a huge box of loose shotgun shells collected over the last 30 years from every box you did not finish.

oh and the best memories any one could ever have with great friends( great meaning the ones that do not poach your spot) and family

LOL!!! Son found goose decoys on Facebook market place for a good price and asked if we would buy them for his birthday present!!! He’s on his 2 or 3 pair of waders and now he wants a kayak or John boat.
He’s a senior at WVU and we keep telling him after you graduate and get a job you can buy what erect you want. He worked with 4 other interns in SD and one invited him to go to Oklahoma in December for goose season!

Northern shoveler

Son went out this morning before classes.

I bought a quarter million $ duck shack on the coast just to shoot divers. Been paying on the place for two decades. Sick I tell ya, just sick. Over the years I've hunted Maine, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kansas, Louisiana, North Dakota, and even Washington State! I own more decoys than there are ducks in the flyway. Sick I tell ya, just sick.

Tell your son to become a crackhead. He will have just as much fun and it's a whole lot cheaper. :D

I have been hunting dippers (buffel head) and whistlers (golden eye) here in Maine since I was a young boy. Nothing like it.

That is the best quote I've read in a while.

Yes, desert ducks.

I've been killin ducks for 65 yrs including both sides of the pacific ocean and from the PNW across the country to the shores of Lake Michigan, now I'm abusing them in the desert SW. Duck hunting is almost as much fun as coyote hunting, you get to eat the ducks and sell the coyotes.

Son & buddies had a good morning before 9:30 college classes!

Before I abandoned Illinois (25 years ago), I had 82 acres of swamp, marsh and swail that was excellent duck and goose hunting along the Illinois River. Up river near Bath, IL. there was an older 4 bedroom house where we could live year 'round if we wanted to.

I had drainage for the deeper parts so it would dry out some for planting Jap millet, pig weed, etc. for feed. Then I could bring the water back up for the season. Made for some excellent entertainment twice a day during the season. We enjoyed shooting early teal, woodies and mallards mostly. There were others but the bag limits in Illinois made it tough duty keeping track of points. Geese were fewer but with several uncles who all farmed, we would get off the water and hit the fields. Dove and pheasant were plentiful.

Duck hunting, fall and green fields are still what I miss most. Oh and 10 depredation tags for deer hunting...

:)

Just like precision shooting sports, duck hunting evolves into a manical sideline. I started chasing ducks/geese15yrs ago by myself or with friends and haven’t looked back.
