Hornady 108 ELDs competition worthy?

I've only shot the 22 88eld and the 6.5 147eld. Both have proven to be incredibly accurate and consistent. They both like to jump a ways to the lands. That said, I would not take them to a match I was set on winning. Every now and again a shot goes weird. Don't know the cause, but the bullets are the only thing I pull out of a box and load without any additional consideration or sorting.

I just hopped on the forum again to see what kind of success guys were having with this bullet. I've got a Dasher with just .120 FB, which puts the pressure ring right at the neck/shoulder junction,,,so a little more FB would be ideal. Initial testing yesterday, I loaded up three 4-shot groups .020 off lands and best group was .8" at 500 yards, so about .15" MOA. 2,975fps was the winning velocity with healthy charge of A2700 and CCI450. I only picked them up because I wanted plastic tipped bullet that will explode on varmints, but seems to me these bullets can shoot! Although, being factory jobbers, i wouldnt be surprised to get a flyer here and there. But I'm pleased thus far!

That's why one sorts bullets. Any and all bullets for competition.

That post is a bit older now, but I'd stand by it. The ELD-M bullets are easy to tune and forgiving. And for most uses, they are worth the savings over higher-end options. I experimented with sorting Hornady, Sierra, and Bergers with limited measurable success. What really improved things was when I moved to custom bullets.

I have never tried ELD M . I use 107 Sierra or 106 customs for that application. Yes custom sort better but in my opinion still need sorted. If you only jump you could be leaving your best option on the table. I start with a square mark on the bullet and back in(to the case) .003 at a time until I hit the spot. Sometimes that square mark is best. Out of my last 25 or 30 barrels I have jumped 2 times. Both times .005. But as long as what you do makes you competitive , keep doing it.

Well I musta got lucky, because I've not sorted bullets and I'm not weighing charges, and I just went back out to range this morning to re-shoot the same load and see if it's repeatable. Sure enough, .8" 4-shot group at 600 yards. I've always had short range BR rigs in PPC and fast twist 6BR, so I've never had anything can shoot like this at distance. So I feel lucky in that regard, although I have a problem in that once the carbon start building up, it starts to get difficult to chamber rounds, as the dimensions in my lead are seemingly too tight...so life isn't as grand as it should be despite the fact I've fired a few .15 MOA groups in a row at mid-range.
