If you use them as pop-up timers for load development, they have a limited lifespan. Otherwise, multiple thousands of rounds.

It’s a joke. Like the pop up plastic thingy to tell you your store bought turkey is cooked. “The extractor flew out / broke. Back off .1 grain, and call it good!”
I’m not recommending this as a load development practice, but based on watching others, I think it’s SOP, for some.

If you remove one you are supposed to replace it rather than reinstall it. Also one can last months or even just weeks and the next one can last years. Note: This is for the new ones. YMMV
