Scope Help--Tired of just OK

I am a life long shooter but have been at it more last few years since I retired --Shot rim fire during the pandemic with a 6-24 Vortex Diamondback Tactical--for $320 scope it has served me well--I like FFP and in the sun it is just fine--BUT...in overcast, shade, or anything less than ideal light the contrast is Poor--sharpness is just OK etc
I want to buy a varmint target scope in the same magnification range or close--FFP--that has Really Great Glass--I do not want to buy 4 more to finally find it! The trouble is you can't go many places and actually COMPARE scopes--
I am willing to spend up $1000- $1500 or so--would love to get a great unit for less but....
I see all the Youtube videos but go to the store and" No we dont have that one or that one--"
Name some that I have to look at I will put it on a 223 bolt gun that will be used mostly for target but some prairie dog shooting couple times a year
Help! Thanks!

6-24 range or something close 20X would work 30mm ( 34 OK) and must be FFP Dont care about illumination but if it is there OK
I like christmas tree style as long as it is thin or has open spot etc

Well, if you could live with 5-25x . . . AND . . . would settle for 34mm . . . AND . . . you don't mind draining your bank account, you might find a Nightforce Atacr that you like here.

I have an NXS 5.5-22x that I love but it's SFP. Knock-your-shoes-off glass and it tracks wonderfully.

I’m an absolute optics snob and the only things I can think of that I’ve actually used under 1500 are Leupold HD and Swaro Z5.

Great glass is expensive…. NF NXS glass is better than Vortex Diamondback but still not what I’d call “good.”

Guys Thanks!
I have been looking at the Tract Torics-
I really appreciate the help--I am just going to have to bite the bullet and step on up--I had really not seen that I needed a new one until our PD trip--Mine was ho hum in a couple of departments when really put to such a test--and after having several and sort of working my way up--I just want to get the next one as right as possible within my budget
All good ideas here I will check them out --Thanks again

I'd add that if you're not set on a FFP scope, you'll have a lot more options. In a long range hunting scope, FFP offers some advantages but for a target style scope or for ranging 'dogs, etc, I find the SFP scopes much easier to use.

The Sightron SIII series SFP scopes are extremely good, the MOA reticle is a good one and they are a very good value.

Lance at Buchanan Accuracy (sponsor here) is a good source for Sightron.

Good shootin' -Al

Your price range has put you in a difficult situation when it comes to FFP... There are cheap ones below it, but most are above it. Here's one possibility.

Everyone's thoughts and price ranges are different.i use swarovski and schmidt-Bender scopes on hunting rifles.i have got a nightforce 8-32×56 on a 6BR.which personally I don't think is as good as the swaro or schmidt, especially in low light.ive found with optics spend as much as one can afford and cry once.
