Words Have Meaning

Randy is getting Cantankerous in his old age.

Confusion about thins like this it is nothing more than simple ignorance. When he makes a video like this, my first thought, is,…,,,,”he is just bitching in order to be bitching”.

As strange as it may seem to those of us who grew up with firearms and have a thorough working knowledge of them, there are millions of people in the US that do not have any knowledge of firearms, how they work, much less the correct terminology for components.

In a movie, when there is a big shoot out, and one character runs out of ammunition, 99 9/10 % percent of the time, they will say…...”I’m out of bullets”

If a man walks into the local Academy Store and asks the clerk, “do you have any bullets for a 30/30”, odds are the clerk is knows exactly what he wants and does not direct him to the Hornady display for 150 grn round nose soft points.

I watch all of Randy’s videos. He poccesses a wealth of knowledge when it comes to ballistics in firearms used for hunting.

But One important aspect of a teachable moment is to teach without being condescending. Randy is missing that.

I really can't stand seeing that cranky old man. He probably has poop in his diaper again and nobody to clean it up. Virtually every video he makes is bitching and griping about one thing or another. If it isn't cutting edge 1970s technology, it makes his blood pressure go up. He is doing nothing for the shooting sports, hunting sports, or gunsmithing other than turning people off.

This whole video makes me think of this scene:

I'm glad this topic popped up. I hope I don't offend anyone by saying. I hate the left's usage/misuse of our language. I've used the term "Linguistic jujitsu" to describe their speak of our words for years. We share a common language for a reason. I love originalist Justices who can read/interpret our constitution correctly. That Said, yesterday a Andrew Klavan fellow popped up in my news feed. He describes this leftist bad habit as "CDT" critical dishonesty theory. I love getting my opinions validated. He is kinda funny too. mikeinct

I'm strong advocate of diplomacy in dealing with fellow shooters.

I also have a strong desire to contribute and help fellow shooters so the shooting fraternity will improve and flourish.

While I'm not even close to being an expert, after 50+ years of active participation in the shooting sports, I have learned some sound basic time-tested principles about shooting and hunting.

When I was in the Army, I also helped trained doctors going to Vietnam in basic firearms use.

You wouldn't believe what I see at the range. I don't interfere unless I'm asked. This usually evolves when a fellow shooter is having problems, often preparing for an expensive hunt out west or Canada and gazes at my target then says, "You look like you know what your doing - can you help me."

I relish this opportunity to help a fellow shooter. Often the fix is something very basic - if it's beyond my expertise, I refer him to my expert rifle smith.

I don't believe in being condescending - I'm still learning too - I don't know everything and sites like this help me expand my knowledge.

Let's stick together and help each other. Insulting someone never creates a positive outcome.

And who was it that said ...”judge a man by his content of his character..”
I prefer content. If you want slam him for his looks, his age or videos please have at it. However, I do think it is important to speak and say things correctly, not just what the latest pop star calls something or what the pasty little you know what says it is on google.
So there I can rant just like Sir Randy. Ha

I can’t help but laugh. When I first started posting, I was quickly corrected when my feeble mind led me to use trim when I should have used turned. The persons doing the correcting did not offer much by way of answering what I asked, but I did appreciate his correction.

In our language word meaning evolves. What difference does it make if you call deer antlers horns? What is important is that the communication is understood as intended by the speaker. Some people can not resist an opportunity to try to make themselves seem smarter than someone else. So, let the addle old man have his self created day in the sun.

Fortunately, I have not been in the game long enough or I’m just too ignorant to know who this guy is. However, I know I would not listen to his rhetoric for more than 5 minutes before walking out and finding a “real gunsmith”. The guy is flat out annoying. Who cares whether people call them horns or antlers?? and more importantly why does he let it get under his skin so bad?? You go to a guy for his expertise on building accurate guns, not for his views on word meanings or semantics. Plain and simple I found that guy in the video super annoying and likely others did as well. Forgive me if I’ve offended anyone by calling this guy a clown but I’m opinionated and I speak my mind. Sorry again.
Dave

Oh Heck, give the guy a little respect. He’s probably forgotten more than a lot of us have learned. If you don’t like what he said just move on and let him have his say as someone mentioned above.
Forgive me, I honestly don’t know who he is…but I did find the video virtually unwatchable….although I literally forced myself to watch the entire video.
