Primer pocket depth?

What is the consensus of the ideal primer pocket depth for 260 and/or 7MM Remington Magnum? I find that some of my primers are not flush with the rim. MTG

They aren't supposed to be flush. They should be sunk 0.002.

Greg
At least. I have all of my brass set up at .004” under flush. My pocket uniforming tool is set to .1245”

I'm new to precision reloading. Here's what Ive found reloading my 6.5PRC. Nosler Brass ALWAYS needed the primer pocket trimmed. I finally got 200 pieces of Lapua and every single pocket was perfect. As others have stated the primer should be lower than flush...just.
Also, measure the pocket depth and the primer thickness. Poor seating can also be your primer seater. I use the Lee bench mounter primer seater and it works much, much better than my RCBS bench mounted.

My primers measure .125..My Lapua Palma primer pockets are .130
and I seat with .001 to ..002 crush...or .005 to .006 deep from flush.
Works well for me at distance. YMMV

I'm not nearly as scientific as the shooters/reloaders here. I use a non-adjustable pocket uniformer from Sinclair on all of my brass. I seat primers until I feel them touch the bottom of the pocket. Easy peasy, but I don't compete against anyone other than myself.

Lapua pockets aren't . 120.
I have found some approaching .124+ virgin. Be tough to uniform at .120 across 50, imo.

My Lapua pockets are .126
my primers including anvil .122 Ish..:)
I set them .009 below the case head with a .005 crush, and yes I weigh them also.

What brass Dusty are you using for the .120 pockets..seems shallow to me.
Why would the brand of brass matter if he told us he uniforms to .120”?? Seems like the correct question might be what primers he is using, right??
Dave

Jim,

Your primers more likely vary something .120 to .124. This would put the crush all over the place.
It’s all I got bro’ I start with feel and transfer to a number, what’s the difference between that and just feel only with any non pressure gage tool ?

Also I’m not saying to anyone I’m doing anything spectacular and certainly don’t take my word what’s the best rather go test for themselves and find out.

Damn sure don’t follow me.

Start with feel and stay with feel, or else measure your primers and sort.
