Debur

6.5 forever

Silver $$ Contributor
I use Lapua brass in my 6.5 CM. It is on the 7th loading. I like to let my brass go to 1.920 in length and trim down to 1.918. This lot has only stretched out to 1.916 so I haven't trimmed yet.

Do you deburr/chamfer the case mouth even if you don't trim?

I chamfer inside with VLD type to assist with seating every load ( also don't trim unless needed) - only debur on outside if/when I actually trim brass.

Depending on how much burr you end up with, and how tight your neck is, your rounds may or may not chamber.

Debur to me refers to deburring the primer flash hole.
This is done only once when the brass is unfired.
A burr MAY be present from the primer flash hole being made by the manufacturer either by punching, drilling, or atomic flash.
Lots of folks like using any word they pick to describe something as long as you can figure out what they mean, it’s ok. I don’t.

Doing it by hand can be the most gentle, but also least consistent…. Unless, your chamfer tool has some form of depth stop.

K&M has a fantastic chamfer tool. $20

The other option is a powered case trimmer that also chamfers the cases, such as Henderson or Giraud. They have a depth stop. $500-$600
