6.5X47L .304" Neck

I looked for an older topic to put this in with no luck. I had a batch of brass that needed to be prepped for loading. Got my 6.5X47 die out . No bushing. Remembered that the last 6.5 I loaded for was my new 6.5X284. I dumped the bushing out and installed it in the 47L. Adjusted the die for proper bump and sized several cases. Found a bulled would fall right in. .291 bushing and should have been .287. I don't know why but I decided to measure the neck on the sized vs. the un-sized neck. I could not believe what I found. The neck od is .304-.305". I checked it both with a mic and veneer caliper. This is a quality after market Savage pre-fit that has shot everything very well. Same barrel I shot my 13.25" four shot at one mile with last fall. This 100 round batch of Lapua has been fired 16 times without a single split neck. Since it is still shooting .4 MOA and under I guess I will just keep going until the brass gives up.

My 6.5x47L fired brass measures .294 at the neck. Which I thought was kind of big. I use a .288 bushing to resize. The neck are .013 thick. I do turn them to .011 if the thickness varies too much; .002 variation. After turning, I use a .282 bushing, I like a little more tension.
Edit: I anneal after every firing.

I dont think that is unturned Lapua brass. Most Lapua brass is at least .014
264 plus 28...292 area.....unturned at .2895 doesnt pan out for me.
unless what you are stating is the fireformed brass is .305 which is a loooooose chamber reamer.

yes that is hard to believe with a sloppy chamber the brass life you are getting. I re-read your post.
that is way loooooose.

The brass was new out of the box. I always set aside one new piece from each box. This box measured .0125 to .013. Yes, the neck is way to big. There is no blow by past the neck. The reason I posted is to see if anyone else has this problem. I used to think all Lapua was the same also or at least close enough to interchange one 6.5 bushing for another. I already had a 6.5 CM when I screwed this barrel on. I just used the bushing I had and started working up loads. The results were outstanding from day one so I never thought to measure the neck on the fire formed brass until yesterday.
