Hunting scope comparison.

I have been looking for an ultralight hunting scope for a mountain rifle which can mean many different things to different people. Some people think anything under 20oz is ultralight. I think anything under 14oz is ultralight. Anyway, I have come down to 2 scopes, the swaro Z3 3-9x36 and the leupold VX3HD 2.5-8x36. I would normally pick the swaro over the leupold but I have heard that the glass has improved over the old vx3's. Just wondering how improved they are and if they are in the same class of scope as the swaro.

To elaborate a little, I shoot that little Swaro on a 25 wssm somewhat infrequently. It’s on a truck gun. It is very good at night for its size.

I’ve shot at least a couple of dozen guns equipped with any or all of the vx-iii, vx3, vx3i names and I’m yet to be impressed, especially in low light, by anything short of the 5HD series.

Pick the Swarovski. If you pick the Leupold and the rumor about glass quality is not true, then you've started a ball of wax - or regrets.
