Custom action for a deer rifle

I have a couple of Stiller Tac30 actions that have served me well as surely others will to. The feature I like and would insist upon is that it is Rem 700 footprint meaning it will accept triggers, stocks, and Remage barrels. After getting the first one on a custom rifle, I have changed everything else myself and enjoy doing so.

Can you tell us any more about your build, Interested in the Kauger Br action.

Had Larry Archer spin up a Proof 7.5t. Finished it at 22"
Added a 2 stage TT Diamond.
Initially I put it in an MDT XRS chassis.
It now sits in the ACC which I like a lot better.
The action is really smooth. The primary extraction is fantastic and everything seems to be perfectly square.

I was able to put my hands on all of their actions at the 2021 PRE and they all felt the same.
I'd buy another

Definitely dont overlook a Kauger Action. I have built several guns on their actions and they have all been great actions. A lot of top shooters are using them and theyre great people on top of that!

What custom actions are a good value? I saw the features of a bighorn, savage barrel threads, rem footprint, changable bolt head. Sounds great, I like all the features, but not sure what else I should be looking at. I dont have never seen any of them in person. Looking at possibly building a 270win repeater with med contour barrel amd i want as many options for stocks and barrels as possible.
Trying my first Gunwerks action on a current build. It's the lesser priced GRB action. Being a hunting rifle, it should be a great action for my needs. Price was 800.00. Didn't feel too bad spending that on an action.

I'm a Borden fan but I think all of the aforementioned actions are great choices. Although, like Dusty, I'm not familiar with the Kauger so I have no opinion on them.

They are pretty dang nice...Exceptionally nice considering the price point. Timing and pin fall is perfection with a BnA BR trigger and +.015 hanger. The amount of bolt lug contact on the abutments when cycling the bolt is like nothing I’ve ever felt before.

Sometime in the future, I’ll be doing a write up on a unique Kauger benchrest action I have. It is the only one of its kind in existence. Want to get a good amount of time and a lot of rounds on paper with it before diving into details tho.

I went and checked them out. Looks pretty good. Id like to see an actual benchrest type knob for weight and 18tpi on the threads. Theyll probably have to lower the price a bit to break into the market though- its hard to sell a new action in the same price ballpark as the ones that are already out there and proven. Theyll also need a dovetail base option along with the pic rails. I do like that they use a bayonet type firing pin removal. Thats a real nice feature to have

Interesting. I look forward to hearing more about them. Like Dusty said, the br market is tough to break into. BAT owns the short range group game. I think they are fantastic actions but I don't think they are better or worse than a Borden or Kelbly. They each have characteristics of their own that mostly comes down to personal preference. Things like ejection angle, for example. I prefer a little more forward ejection of a Kelbly, on a bench than my Bordens. Splitting hairs though and they are all proven winners. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those three, in particular. Given that they are all of excellent quality, it's those little details that most people never get aquainted with before buying, unless they've been in the game for a while. The biggest upside is resale value vs some of the lesser known actions. Those three brands are just safe bets in that regard.

Yeah this one-off dual port BR 3 model has all the normal Kauger features plus certain features that none of the other Kauger actions have. And one particular feature no other action make or model on the market has to my knowledge. Will just have to see how it all turns out on paper.

Seeing the quality first hand on this BR model is impressive enough that I wouldn’t hesitate in the least to try one of the Kauger repeater actions on a hunting or Varmint rifle. Much nicer than a some of the other actions mentioned in this thread that I have experience with.

The bolt handle looks cast or something but what I can see of the action looks well machined.

You order straight from Kauger Arms and can choose from several different knobs and bolt styles when ordering. I also have Bats and love them but for the money the Kaugers are tough to beat. I met Tim Kauger and his family at the IBS 600yd Nationals in Piedmont last year and they had their son Alex shooting, which i think was around 13 at the time. He was a great young man and I had nothing but respect for him and his family for having a kid out competing in the IBS Nationals. Since then I have put several rifles together using their actions and have not had anything but great results from them.
