Hi all,

Noob here. I"m looking/interested in seeing a cut away showing how a cartridge sit in a action, and how it is positioned into the chamber/barrel.

Thanks thanks.
Trying to figure out how some comments imply that you can probably use a 300 Rem Mag in a 300 prc...

considering both are .30 cal. and the case and neck match.
for now my mechanical side of brain says no... can accept if the case is 1mm shorter than the receiving gun, then ye, not perfect, but can't see how a .300 prc will work in a 30 Rem Mag even though the case/cal/etc is all close.

have you by any chance come across a diagram that labels the different parts in that diagram.
I\ll go google also, just thinking allot of much more clever people here that have the right diagrams/documentation.

Are you talking about a 300 Remington Ultra Mag?

If do, no, on both counts.

while not true 100% of the time, cartridge designers and manufacturers take great pains in insuring that you can’t fire a different cartridge in a rifle than the one it is designed for, especially in cases that headspace on the shoulder.

Good basic rule of thumb is to NEVER fire anything in a rifle that is not the exact same cartridge that the rifle was made for. There are considerations that you are apparently not aware of that are IMPORTANT.

Think it's more a generic question, there are various comment where say a 6.5 and 6.5 Creedmore and 6.5 PRC and 6.5 Lapua or similar the various .300's where cartridges can be interchanged and for me it does not make sense, the entire statement...

I'm not planning at all to do this, not to worry. just statements I'm hearing and also not making sense and trying to figure out how it could at all be possible.

and at the same time improve my understanding of how the bullet fit in the case and the entire cartridge fit into the action/chamber and how the bullet is positioned into the barrel.

I think it would help you understand if you took just two actual cartridges and compared them. For example, the 6.5 Creedmoor and the 6.5 PRC.

There is no cartridge that is named ".300 Remington Magnum" There is a .300 Winchester magnum, which is a belted case, the .300 Remington Ultra mag, and the .300 Remington Short Action ULtra mag.

Those statements did serve some useful purpose in that you know know whose posts you should completely ignore.

Cartridges vary in diameter, not just length. A PRC is 0.532, Remington SAUM and Ultra mag are bigger diameter. There’s no way that they would even chamber.
