Most know the western USA is in a mega drought situation...

Lake Powell & Lake Mead are looking very bleak

Although this summer is starting to have early monsoon moisture action here in Utah

Systems sneak in from AZ and keep our normally boring summer weather active with storms

Anyhow....June 23rd a mega T/storm system parked over the Capitol Reef NP area

Flash floods created a real mess for park visitors...this video shows the power of flash floods

Taken & posted by of of the truck owners...purty crazy !

Im really worried about lake mead. The last time i saw it it was only 90’ low. The only thing you could see for a hint was the white waterline on the rocks. Everything else seemed normal except maybe the loooong boat ramps and docks. That is a beautiful lake and a pure tragedy whats going on

They call it a lake, but it is a reservoir. It is doing what it was designed to do, provide water when natural supplies are low. The recreational benefits are secondary. It may fill again if we have more wet years or we may be looking at extended drought. Both have happened historically.

Well its nearing dead pool so its not going to be good for power generation or a water supply. Itll be like the salton sea if they dont do anything about it

My high desert location here in Utah.....water is precious

Our recent 3 year reservoir dam rebuild is finally complete

Sitting at 94% capacity right now...most it has ever held !!

As mentioned......monsoons have moved in.....rained off/on all day today

Keeps the forest wet....less chance for wildfires started by lightning..or careless campers

Word is..Flaming Gorge is going to dump 500K acre feet of water down to Powell....in August

The news stations didn't mention any fatalities when they showed the water falls. Hope that was the case.

Wow, it was amazing. Power of water.
Seems like nobody got hurt and they were in good spirits. That NICE white truck, seemed to be brand new.

Awhile back, I saw an article talking about tree ring studies done on ancient, and well preserved ponderosa pines that had been excavated near my area here in Oregon.
Gist of the findings was that in the last few thousand years, there had been periods of drought at least as bad as what we are now experiencing -- and they lasted a couple hundred years. And by the way, automobiles and industry weren't to blame.

A couple hundred years of this kind of drought, and lakes Mead and Powell won't be the only dry ones. Farming and irrigation will be a thing of the past, and the water wars we are now having will seem laughable. jd
