not to me when theres a 2# limit and shipping/hazmat cost $20.00 a pound42 a pound plus tax and shipping seems fair.
MidSouth - you can order up to 10 1-pounders or 2 8-pounders. That spreads out the shipping/hazmat ($35).not to me when theres a 2# limit and shipping/hazmat cost $20.00 a pound
If you pay that, you are messed up.How much is too much? What would you be willing to spend per pound if you found Varget in stock somewhere. Recently I stopped by a local gunshop that had 8lb jugs of varget for $507 after tax ($63.37/lb)
I passed but I'm wondering if I messed up.
Only you can answer this question. That's a pretty steep price for Varget, but not having at all any is also associated with a certain amount of suffering. You will have to decide for yourself how much an 8 lb jug of Varget is worth to you. If you decide you are unwilling to pay that much, then you will have to look elsewhere until you find it for a price you can accept. Varget has been around lately, so with a little diligence you ought to be able to find some for a little less $$$ than that. How much is too much? I'm with you on the metering for sure!I'd find an alternative. Old 4064 is hard to beat but meters like dirt clods.
I would not order if I could not order enough to balance out the shipping.not to me when theres a 2# limit and shipping/hazmat cost $20.00 a pound
It's definitely nice to have options. I test lots of different powders for any given load rather than just going with what's most popular. It comes in handy during times like now, knowing you can fall back on something. I recently found a load that may be my best yet like this.I dropped out of the varget craze during the last ‘panic’
I found some good substitutes especially for my 30BR that at least as good and certainly cleaner.
Just mentioning as theirs is not the only powder. Of course lots of powers this time around are equally difficult to get. Glad I bought a lot of 4198 before this new difficulty came about.
The key is Mike is to buy a ton of the powder that is best in each caliber that you compete with then you don't have to fiddley fk around with powder that will work in a pinch. That just makes more sense to me. Yes I have a half dozen powders that will work in a 30BR like RL7, 2015BR, H322, LT30, Tubal 2000, N201, but I bought enough H4198 and N130 to last me 2 lifetimes, so why am I going to try to reinvent the wheel. Ya I like screwing around with the other stuff at home but when I travel hundreds of miles I sure as Hell ain't going to use anything but H4198 or N130 in that order because I know they work and work better than those 6 powders that I mentioned. It's definitely nice to have options. Fiddle fkn around at home, makes sure I don't have to drive hundreds of miles to do it at a match, Jim. You can call it whatever but I call it testing.
