Iowa to Allow Semi Auto Rifles

A poor decision from a misinformed govenor. As i understand it the 223 cartridge is legal. Most western states require .243 and up. Should be straight wall cases only.

Effectively legally ? Deer hunting is a once a year hunt for many Iowans. I quit many years ago because the crazy's were loose in the timbers. I'm 74. Many don't have the skill that you speak of. Most don't give a rats a--.
Back when I lived there they hunted deer like we hunt rabbits in MO. Was pretty scary to a guy used to everyone using a .30-06 or 308.

I spent time on my belly and hiding once behind a huge Oak tree. The slugs were flying everywhere. I seen a doe killed a block away with a shot gun. This was before rifled barrels.

Including AR's in certain counties for January antlerless hunt.

Says right there Assault Rifle -15’s..
isn’t that a .223 bolt face? An AR 10 would be 308. Or did I miss something?

350 legend and 450 bushmaster work fine in the AR15 although you have to keep pressures a bit lower with the bushmaster because of the bolt. 350 legend used the 223 bolt face and the 450 uses a 308 bolt face, but that also makes it a lot thinner, hence the lower max. pressure
Yes, the AR10 does come standard with the 308 bf

223's legal here in WI. I've killed a few with them. One shot kills with proper placement. My wife uses the.223 exclusively to deer hunt. Her shots are 200 yards max. She loves her Ruger Hawkeye compact with Leupy scope. She killed 3 deer with it last season. Since a deer bounded in front of her car recently, she has vowed to kill 4 this year! :)
AR's legal here also. I do wonder a bit about the mag dumps during deer season on a neighboring farm. Long as they are firing in a safe direction it's none of my business. Below are two of my wife's .223 one shot kills.

Many western states allow 22 caliber or larger. The 223 Rem is and has been used for kills on many deer and bear. Heavens. bear shot over dogs and hunts that allow it, have been killed with 22 mag rimfire.
It just takes placing the shot in the right spot and within a shorter range. Not one thing wrong with this governor's decistion. In fact it is a step forward for hunters, rather than back, as so many are doing.

In fact some, like my commie state of Kalifornia allow any centerfire. And I know of more than one deer that was DOA at the hit with some 17 calibers, but by shooters that know how to place the shot.

223 is legal here Mn(in the rifle zone). Have been for years, haven't heard anything about changing it. I live in shotgun zone, the only issue is I can't have a centerfire rifle in my possession(in the field) during deer general firearms season. So coyote are 22 rimfire, shotshell#4 or smaller if not licensed to hunt deer, deer hunting coyote can be shot with legal deer equipment.

Farms and small towns are still close to gather in Iowa. We don't need bottle neck cartridges. Shotguns with slugs were the norm for years. There is a rifle only area in the part of the bottom two tiers of county.

Well when our county went to rifles from shotgun and slugs there was a guy writing articles in the local paper that it would be armageddon and every house and passing car would be shot up. That never came about or even close. Fact is that hunting coyotes was always legal for rifles here. I have come closer to being shot with slugs bouncing off the ground than with rifles. The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

What you might be missing is it says AR-15, not assault rifle. Surely you don't think AR stands for Assault Rifle.
AR stands for the company that designed them, Armalite Rifles. I was told that they were intended for the civilian market. Seems the military took a liking to them and now the Left calls them weapons of war. If what I have heard is wrong, please feel free to correct me.
