Thank you, very helpful info.
I used to crimp Barnes and got good results but the hammers must be a different animal. You experience will help save testing and a waste of components. Any experience with the absolutes?
My results may not be typical because many Hammer shooters seem to have jumped on the FCD bandwagon. I did too when I bought 1/2 dozen of them and began experimenting. They are cheap enough that it's probably worth a try. A direct, long(er) range comparison on paper can be rather revealing.
I never bothered with the Absolutes. I had very good results with Hammer Hunters in several cartridges and data is easy to develop or attain. Squeaking out an extra 100 FPS (or so) by converting to Absolutes and starting load development with much faster powders just didn't seem to be worth it.
IMO, Hammer bullets do everything they claim to and are really great bullets. The only thing that keeps me from shooting more of them is the cost. Hammers are expensive, but then again, so is everything else that is in the top of its industry.
