ARCA vs. Picatinny Rails

I have two rifles with Arca rails. I am using AccuTac bipods. The rifles are recoiling back thru the clamp (can't tighten it more ). I am starting to think the positive of the Arca is the adjustability for PRS, not for stability. I am a old man who shoots prone at steel targets, no running around

Any opinions of the stability of the Arca rail vs a pic rail?

With a good clamp they should not move with ARCA. I have ARCA on most of my precision rifles now and all the bipods hold tight. Look to see if there is a way to take up any tension in your clamp.

My cheap ones from Amazon hold pretty good. They cost $13-$14. I have had one loosen 2 different times. This was during shooting f class. Both times I shot 10 sighters 20 for record in my first string, 2 sighters 20 for score in my 2nd string. Somewhere both times after 2 sighters and late in my 3rd string after shot 15 my clamp was a little loose. I noticed it and reached up and tighten it and went back to shooting. I believe it's like any other type clamps you use it enough it gets broke in and has like a settling spot and stays put. It hasn't happened since and I've used it for shooting pdogs for many a shot.

You can pin the clamp to the Arca rail ..or purchase a Arca Bipod clamp from Area419
they dont move at all.
You will need to notch the rail a small amount however.

I have an MPA RAT base on my Atlas. It's a bit tough to get tight...but I can do it with my fingers.


If I didn't need to be able to adjust it on the fly, I'd have stuck with the picatinny mount. But starting to dabble in PRS, it's nice to be able to take off the bipod and/or move it up and down the chassis as needed. One of our stages in particular is best shot from a bipod about halfway down the chassis.

ARCA is nice because it'll maintain a flat bottom to ride in a bag if shooting from a rest....and the ease of adjustment. But I'd agree, picatinny doesn't have the opportunity to move.

Yup the Area 419 are what I use.

This is definitely the perfect world for an Arca clamp. They do not move once tightened. Everything Area 419 makes is top notch.
