Is there a good 600 yard .224 bullet with a 1-9 twist barrel?

My 9 twist 223 shoots its best with the 73 grain Bergers, maybe it didn't get the memo that 9 twist is too slow.I've shot a very few number of good groups with it at 1,000 yards on very calm days.If a mouse farts in their direction way out there, they'll drift about 6 feet, lol.I shoot the Bergers, the tipped Matchkings and the regular Matchkings at 600 yards and they all do great.

73 grain is OK for a 9 twist but it is at the edge. i live at sea level and where i shot is about 18-20 feet above sea level and they work here so they should work every where. I am told that the 75s will be iffy in a 9 twist, thats why i haven't been in a big rush to try them out.

My 1/9 20" shoots 75BTHP very well, only tested to 300 yards though. You won't really know what works or not until you try it unfortunately. I will be trying heavier very soon.

I have a very accurate rifle twisted 1-9 that I would like to use out to 600 yards on steel. It shoots the Hornady 75 grain BTHP into .5 moa. The rifle is a 223 so there is that limitation also. I get 2925 fps using Leverrevolution powder. I have run it out to 400 but now have access to a range that goes to 600 yards. Will the bullet remain stable that far out?
I shoot that same bullet in my savage 12FV (stock gun) and it holds 2.5-3" at 500 meters. I am getting 3019 fps with IMR 4895 and it also shoots .5 Moa.

The 69 SMK shoots almost as good and is a good backup load. I have some 70gr RDF's that I have not tried yet.

Way back 20+ years ago I shot X-Course HP Service Rifle, with a Bushmaster Heavy barrel AR-15 SR with a 1:9 twist chrome lined barrel. I shot 600 yds. with Hornady 75 gr BTHP seated longer than magazine length with Varget and Remington 7 1/2 Primers. I was just learning but at Buffalo Creek Colorado I managed a 188 at 600 yards. That range is in the mountains west of Denver and certainly at least 7,000 feet altitude if not more and the round was definitely supersonic at 600. It was a very mild condition I fired in, however. I was using Sierra 69 gr Match Kings and Varget for the 200 and 300 yard strings and except for my terrible off hand score I fired 190+in sitting and prone rapid fire. I miss those days of no component shortages and great eye site. I used the same Sierra 69's mag length for 200 yard reduced course HP and did well except for off hand.

I shoot the 77 TMK from a 223 AR 1-9 bbl at 547 yards from a magazine. This is a 2 MOA target - 10” dia plate.

No problem at all. 1250 ft elevation DA 2000-3500 ft.

It is a compressed load.

Many of us old timers were surprised by this.

The Berger 73 grains is the current record holder for Fclass TR 300 m in my country, using custom rifle with 1/9 tw barrel assembled by Mike Bryant.

Also worth a try, the Berger 70 vld. You get 77smk BC with 69gr velocity.

Sounds good then, rained yesterday and I couldn't get past the plowed field to the bench. This just might be the excuse I need to lengthen the mag box and order a 1-8 barrel if I can't get what I want out of the 1-9 barrel.

And,

I have also shot the IMI 77gr razor core ammo $20/box stuff out of the 1-9 AR-15 at 500m with suprising results. Won some matches with it actually!

I have a 1-9 twist 26 inch White Oak barrel on an AR upper that shoots those Berger 73's into less than half MOA. Shot it in F Class at 600 in the past. Also have a CZ 527 MTR with a 1-9 twist. Due to the price of the 73's (if you can find them) I've been shooting 69 grain Nosler Custom Comps. They shoot quite well.

77gr Sierras shoot tight in my 9 twister at 500, Strange that the 69's
did not fair as well, but tighter then the 77's in an 8 twister.

I never shot a 73 Berger. I shoot 53-77 in my 9 twist all out to 600 and some definitely farther.
I don't have a favorite for accuracy out of my 9 twist for 600, because I primarily use it for banging steel and shooting pdogs in closer.
So I may have to give the 73 Berger a shot. What would hold me back is it's only a 20" barrel.

The Berger 73 is the most accurate mid weight bullet I’ve shot from my 223 and 223AI. All the others are fine, but the 73 is in a class by themselves.
I sold all my 69’s and bought 73’s.
Interesting.
Chaps I know were getting 2" 5 shot groups at 500 with Berger 69's.......are you doing even better ?

My 1:9 LTR will go 5/5 on a 3" circle at 545 yards with the 70 RDF.

Altitude is 4400'

I've shot the 69 RMR to 675 but with a 1:8 twist. I don't see why it wouldn't go beyond that.
