Cracked shoulder

You may want to check your neck clearance. Just a possibilit. Dave
I’m running a .271” neck that measured .2714” and my loaded rounds consistently measure .2906” with tubing mics.

Doc,
Everyone has a preference I guess and I’m not trying to push my way as I have no world championships under my belt for bragging rights however why would anyone leave lube in your case neck for powder to hang up on and if you remove it your back to step one metal to metal surface which in my experience causes cold weld clickers , inconsistent velocities and so on. For me according to my K&M force seat restoration gauge I get the most consistent bullet seating force with carbon left in my necks lightly brushed the same on every case.
Everyone else’s mileage may vary.

I'm NO World class expert by any stretch my own self , I like it because it's Quick and thoroughly cleans .
I used to use neck lube like everyone else and case lube ,then one day I said what for . As we just have to remove it later right . So if a material is hard as diamond and twice as slippery as PTFE ,it Should and DOES work .

MY views or opinions are simply alternative ,they're neither Right or Wrong ,as it's everyone's game and people will do what works best for them regardless of what I say or think .

I simply attempt to show alternative's , Never My intention to be argumentative or disrespectful ; Simply one of K's on the forum seeking information insight and opinions of others ,as I'm far far from infallible .

AlMgB14 aka as BAM in the trade .

Although humorous not the point I was making . Simply that corrosion is more susceptible where hot gases are most active and that would be ?. Those photos were for illustration purposes of shoulder corrosion .
I believe DaveM's is more a Torch gas cutting than corrosion ,as in pushing the envelope .

How do You see it ?
Pushing the envelope how?? I induction anneal after each firing, I use a custom full length bushing die to minimize working the brass, I don’t use mandrels, and I’m shooting a rather pedestrian 3050fps out of a 6 dasher 31” Bartlien barrel using Berger 105g VLDs over 33.1g of RL-15. Certainly know a lot of folks that are pushing their brass harder than I am.
Dave

Dave, I thought you had two or three or four cases it did the same thing?
Wayne
Nope just this one cracked in such a strange and obvious way. The others were tiny tiny cracks in the body after 17+ firings

I have seen a few cases over the years that had very slight folds in the shoulders and the few do split always split along those folds. They look different than the overworked over pressure cracks you see on worn out brass.

Too bad you’re on the other side of the earth from me, you seem like a guy I could not only shoot with, but also shoot the shit with. Lots of great shooters in that pacific NW area.

Split that case and take a gander ,it's probably a defect . I was under the impression you also had more that were doing this splitting in the neck . I wasn't aware of the ballistics until You posted them .

Hopefully I can find it on my reloading bench. I know I didn’t throw it out. You could very well be right. The crack was so perfectly straight that I just couldn’t believe my eyes. I’ll try to locate it this weekend.
