What do y’all think of my red neck gun

Thought I’d show this red neck master piece off. It’s a carcano I bought off a buddy he rebarreled to 7.62x39, with an new SKS barrel.

He chopped the old one off at the trunion and rethreaded the sks barrel on set the headspace then tac welded the barrel on a few times to make sure it didn’t move any. I know barrel welding is taboo, but it’s just small tac welds not a big line. Plus it was already threaded on and welded to the rest of the original barrel not the heat treated receiver or anything like that.

Then he added the fixed magazine modification and I added the bubba sights. I got the rifle to group 1in a 25 yards. Perfect zombie gun!

If any of y’all want to chime in on the barrel welds I’d like to hear your concerns as I’m not a gun smith or metal expert.
Instead of calling it a truck gun, I would be more inclined to call it a tractor/dozer gun. I, too, am a fan of that rear sight.

Jackie,
I think he means the original barrel was cut off then threaded inside to accept the new barrel. The new barrel may have been too small to simply thread into the receiver. The tack welds may have been used in place of a lock nut or a shoulder to seat against the sleeve. Just my interpretation. I've done some fairly jackleg stuff myself! I'll admit to feeling nothing but admiration for those sights. WH
PS I think he would get extra points if the threading was done with a tap and die set.

You explained it just right. yes the guy used a tap and die set, I’m pretty sure from harbor freight. I don’t think we knew what a lock collar was till after the welds were complete.

Did fire testing involve tying to a post or tree? If so that's ok, true RN would just shoot it with a buddy nearby to pickup the pieces for a truck ride to the doc.
I first fired it by my self at the range is that red neck enough? At first it was double taping, it would take 2 strikes to set off a primer. So I replaced the firing pin spring with a 21 pound spring.

My goodness! Amazing what can happen when a couple rednecks get bored.

Why is all questionable gunsmith work blamed on rednecks? Do you think hippies , yuppies BLM , antifa, gays, billionaires are incapable of screwing up a gun? Ive been guilty, Ive even heard of gunsmiths doing it. So why is every messed up gun blamed on a redneck?

No words for this hideous piece of junk...shows of desperation and a definite lack of "red neck" ingenuity. Wait til dark, to sneak out and dispose of it ... call it the "Border Crosser's Special."

Why would you say such a thing? Whoever built this has way more value than many who rush to write a check and then look down their nose at someone else and think they are superior. I recall a story about a guy invited to go shoot ducks with his boss and friends. They all had shoguns that were worth more than his car, and he showed up with a marlin bolt action 12 gage. They all snickered and when it was over he had shoot the only 2 ducks killed that day. Be smug for curing cancer not for writing a check.
