Just for fun...I was trying out some different ammo with my cheap Savage FV. Stock gun. Scope is an Athlon 35x. Are the higher vel offerings less accurate? At least some are.
First two bulls are CCI Std Velocity. As many others have found it is very accurate for as inexpensive as it is. I have tried other CCI offerings, like the Quiet, Suppresser, etc and they all make groups twice as big. Have not tried the CCI Green Match.
Second picture is CCI Stinger and Aquila Interceptor 40gn HP, also copper plated. A note: the Stinger is the only ammo that I have had a case stick in my chamber. 3rd shot. Punched it out with my range rod and finished my shooting without any further incidents.
Last, I found some Eley Tenex (bottom bull) and Match (top bull) to try. They might have done better if I could have. End of 3hrs of shooting and the reticle was moving around almost 1/4". It is a very light rifle so my skills were being tested here and I was failing
And, yes, I fire 10 rounds of any new ammo to 'condition' the bore before looking at a group.
I will probably not ever try any other inexpensive ammo. I did weight sort some of the CCI Std Vel and I do get fewer fliers, but, overall accuracy is about what you see here. If I decide to get serious I'll pony up the money and get Eley or Lapua.
Yes, this basically means that target ammo is more accurate, but, also less vel. FWIW, I've not shot more than 200yd with my little gun so far. One day I will stretch it out a bit.
