I guess my curiosity is what bullets should be targeted for BR work in this size case, where BC plays a distant third fiddle to raw accuracy and tune window. Looking to FTR, where the 308 may prove a nice comparison, I'd venture a guess that the 30-6.5PRC would excel with the 185 juggernaut, or the 200.20x. I'm not sure if the bigger bullets would work out in this smaller case or not. I suspect the 210vld and up won't work quite as nicely, but I'm excited to read what @tom finds out as he works with this case. What guys have seen is the smaller the case, or the faster powders used to run a certain speed node seem to be the most accurate. The low 2830-2850 node with 30-32” barrels is the target for these cases.
That’s why they invented the 7mm!I am interested because 1) I need a 30 cal on windy days and
2) I hate recoil
Recoil can be managed with stock construction at the back end....I am interested because 1) I need a 30 cal on windy days and

Who makes a 7mm long range Custom Bullet ? Who is winning short range or long range Benchrest matches with out of the box production bullets ?That’s why they invented the 7mm!
SKWERLZ a few post up recommend that I should shoot a 7mm. I do not know of anyone making custom long range 7mm bullets. My original thread starting post stated it was 1000 yard benchrest. One 17lb rifle to shoot both light and heavy. The easy button is 300 WSM, I am looking for a way to do it with the least amount of powder and recoil.your comments have me confused.
well do you want to win or just show up ?SKWERLZ a few post up recommend that I should shoot a 7mm. I do not know of anyone making custom long range 7mm bullets. you realize that group and score for 1k was set by a guy at the az range shooting a perfect score with a 2.8 group. he lost group to a 2.6 i think. the thing is the guy shoots 300 wsm , in both lite and heavy..2 gunsAs a heavy gun the 300 WSM and 300 SAUM IMP do very well. As a light gun, not as much nowadays.
In 2006 and 2007 I shot a 300 WSM in AZ as a light gun and did well. That range is very windy and that was then--when a screamer group was only 4", we didn't worry a lot about tracking, didn't have dual port actions, and didn't try to shoot fast.
Nowadays things are very different. 1000 yd LG screamer groups are 2.5". We obsess about tracking, have dual port actions, and almost everyone shoots fast. It's very hard to shoot a 300 WSM or a 300 SAUM IMP with 215 grain bullets quickly in a 17 lb gun. I tried and while I won for score, I was dead last in my relay for group, finishing behind all the 6mms.
Now in a 30 lb heavy gun in the 30s excel. The recoil movement seems about like a 6 BRA and can be shot very quickly. We have also seen that lighter weight bullets in 300 WSM or 300 SI often power through the conditions better than their BC would imply.
So that makes us wonder if a smaller case in a 30 shooting 185 class bullets might not do well as a 17 lb light gun. If anyone can make it work it will be @tom, but watching the recoil on his 30-6.5 PRC as he tests it makes me wonder. That said, it sound make a great Rendezvous gun with its 22 lb weight limit.
It's going to be hard to beat the BRA and Dasher in the light gun class. Nothing shoots as small as a 6mm, and it takes truly poor conditions before they fall off. Even when LG 6mms are shot in the heavy class, they often beat the 30s.
We have tried the super high BC 109 and 110 grain bullets in the 6mms, but they don't often shoot to BR levels of accuracy--though IIRC, the JLKs might have.
I see some hope for the 25 Creed as a light gun. The new Berger 135s are around .650 BC, and if that round can be make to shoot it would have an advantage in windy conditions over the 6mms while not generating the recoil of the 30s.
(And we are are puzzled as to why a 7 SAUM wouldn't absolutely rule as an HG in 1K BR, but they don't seem to keep up with the 30s......at least for now.)

have they every improved /fixed the shooting berm at three points ?
i shot there once , won't go back..i like my health not the trek up the berm
yes that is correctLOL! I haven't been there since 2007. Are you shooting a 300 WSM in LG? I thought you had a 6 for LG and a 30 for HG at the Nats?
