MIFFLIN COUNTY GROUNDHOG RECORD ATTENDANCE

While at the Mifflin County shoot in Central Pa yesterday I heard it was the largest number of guns and shooters ever. The weather was good, the food Cindy serves is excellent, and inspite of the large crowd the match went flawlessly. It's an interesting shoot in that over the last couple years the traditional benchrest crowd shrinks but the tactical group grow and grows. The tactical group is also making great strides. A few years ago they were 12 to 15 points behind. Now they are a point or two behind and they are coming, I can feel it. As we have become an integrated crowd I think a bit o friendly competition has emerged. So if your missing this shoot under Ringmaster Jesse Grove, come out next month May 28th for some good competition.

Yes it was the largest number of guns ever at MCSA for a groundhog shoot. Everything went well and we were still gone by by 2:30. Maybe next month we will see some more PRS shooters and some of the guys here on this site. We have some good competition, good food and a lot of fun! Hope to see more new people next month.

Speaking of the tactical group.....Up near Cranberry there is a 1000 yard
yard range just put in the past couple of years. Last months PRS match
they had just over 60 shooters in bad weather !! I have not see numbers
like this since I shot IPSC in the 70's and 80's !!

Thanks Jesse, great day of shooting! Shot a match there about 15 years ago and shocked at the turnout yesterday. Lot of fun! Not a bench shooter but definitely enjoy trying a little of everything.
Jeff, A lot of the guys I shoot with enjoy tactical rifles and shooting from the ground. Most of us aren't serious about competing formally but enjoy accuracy and building on high end components. I think as we get older it is more fun to shoot from a bench than lay in the dirt. Some of these rifles shoot pretty good from a bench not BR set ups but respectable enough to have some fun.

If I shoot from the dirt your going to need to pick me up off of it when I am done.

Jeff, I'm with you. Theres normally not enough people to get me off the ground even if I wanted to shoot prone!!

I do know some confuse aluminum chassis stocks with
being tactical. All my BR stocks are built off of aluminum
chassis, and not one is tactical in the sense of the word.
Although I've been known to get sniper tactical with them
real furry critters.... As for laying in the dirt ?? I'm over
it also..... Did'nt one of the major BR organization add a
tactical class to help bring in dwindling numbers ??

Thanks Jeff

something needs to be done about that wind though? i really hate how it blows them bullets away from where i want them to go!
really glad to see the food station!

We need someone to hover a drone with a wind flag on it at 200 yards at the height of the 500 yard line. Some young techno guy.
That would be interesting, things really changed on the 3rd and 4th relays according to the scores and groups

Glad to hear about the good turnout & successful event!
Really surprised at the different cartridges being shot!
A 300 RUM at a groundhog match!
Along with (2) 300 Win Mags, a 7mm Rem Mag, (2) 284 Win, and an '06.
Some big boomers.

The 30/06 is a purpose built light gun. That I built a few years back. Joe just had to have it. He was 3rd in points with it last year I believe.
The 300 rum was a mistake they thought it was the steel plate shoot. They just decided to stay and try out a GHS. Not sure about the other rifles.
