30BR ACCURACY @ LONGER DISTANCE

Bill, a 30 BR at 300 has the same accuracy potential as a 6PPC at 300. The difference in the two would be which shooter has the best handle on the conditions.

I still think 300 is in “short range Benchrest“ territory, in that a good shooter can still get a precision read on his flags. That means the best bet is to use the most accurate rifle that is legal for the Match.

I would feel safe in saying that at any 300 yard Group Match, a 6 PPC will dominate. While higher BC combinations that are used in the BR variants might be better out further, they simply do not have the agging capability 6PPC or a 30BR.

But then, that takes us back o that whole condition reading thing.

A note about the Tack Driver. When I got home, I looked at all of my targets. In group, I started analyzing my score targets measuring each missed shot off of the center of the 10 ring and discovered that I actually shot better groups in the score portion than I did the group portion., if those five shots were overlayed. The majority of the “9’s” were just outside the 1” mothball. Two of them would have been sold .800 groups Which was pretty darned competitive.
Thanks Jackie for the info. I just worked up a little different load with Bart's 112 gr. bullets than what I have been shooting and I think I will move over to it because it is .5 gr. less powder (H-4198) than what I been loading. I feel confident it will shoot as good as my previous load. Caliper zeroed at .308.

You darned sure can’t go wrong with the Bart’s 112 X-Out.

Here is a group my son shot this last weekend and won 300yd shoot. This was with my 30br. We shoot for smallest group at end of day…..I won a round and he won a round then won smallest for the day, so Im firm beliver that 30br will hold its on to at least 300. We were shooting against 6ppc, 6br and 22ppc’s

Was just thinking about how accurate the 30BR would be out to 300 yards ? Anybody have experience to share ?
Bill. This is just shit luck at 300 yards last October at Orangeburg, SC at the 2-300 yard IBS Score Nationals with my 30BRX which is almost the equal to Wayne France's 30WW. I like the BRX'S Xtra Horsepower at 2 and 300 yards and meters. Wayne and I also use the same Bat 3 Lug melonited action. This is a rarely shot 50-5X's. Too bad it was just the warmup because I screwed up on the 1st match and dropped a point because I only fired 1 sighter. Stayed clean the rest of the shoot and took 3rd but I screwed up big time. More sighters could have prevented my manly 9 on the last shot.

i see a common error in the math of group size, the same on an earlier post.
a 308 bullet seldom( as in close to never) creates a 308 dia hole.
you need to measure single holes and determine just what size hole is being made.
i measured 295 on a target i posted on the big bore page..... real group size otuside to outside minus actual bullet hole size, not bullet size.

What size is the circle on the scoring reticle? Thats the standard and the only thing that matters. If your hole is less than .308 you got a good tune and thats a bonus that puts you that far ahead

dusty,
most shooters do not have one.
and it really does not matter as it is centered over a hole///which basically eliminates actual dia.

they measure edge to edge minus bullet dia...which is wrong most of the time. fine for club discussions but seldom accurate.
i scored matches for over 15 years with a reticle measuring tool..... hart i think. stayed with the club when i left.

JimPag, your targets are a prime example of why 11s instead of xs make for more interesting matches. But either way very nice 300 yd targets, under the gun when it counts.
ok yes but not if you have any 9's....
awarding an 11 covers up a 9 which is a miss in score
just 2 cents worth

But if you are practicing i would prefer to measure groups the way they would in a match. Just my opinion though. Same reason i use real target paper
