Tikka t1x 17hmr too loud?

I'm in the market for a 17hmr...I'm undecided between tikka and savage and I'll tell you why. I am a tikka guy through and through. I have several already and want another one. Anyone that has at least one will probably understand why. I did find a tikka that i want but dont want to be dissapointed or annoyed everytime i shoot it. I have a friend that has had a tikka t1x and traded for a savage because he said the tikka was way to loud to shoot without ear protection. The savage was very noticeably quieter. I have no experience shooting a tikka 17hmr... but savage I have. Anyone else noticed this or have any input on the topic.

THIS SHOULDNT NEED TO BE SAID, BUT, DON'T SHOOT ANYTHING WITHOUT PROPER HEARING PROTECTION!!! I GREW UP IN THE LATE 60'S & 70'S, HEARING PROTECTION WASN,T A THOUGHT BACK THEN, SHOT A LOT OF 22 STUFF, THE RINGING IN MY EARS NOW IS RELENTLESS & I SURE WISH I COULD GO BACK & DO IT OVER, WITH EAR PLUGS THIS TIME!!!

Keep shooting the Savage without hearing protection and it will become much quieter. Of course you will not be able to hear what anyone has to say.

I don't even shoot a 22 rifle without hearing protection, every shot will rob you a bit of your hearing. I shoot around 3K rounds on my prairie dog hunt of 17 HMR. Sometime during the hunt I will forget to put my muffs on when I shoot. Really jogs my memory hearing the funny sounds in my ears for the next 10 minutes. The "pop" of the 17 HMR is quite sharp. Will not be appreciably different in any rifle. Would be much worse fired from a revolver.

Do yourself a favor and get the rifle you want and wear hearing protection for every shot.

Given same barrel lengths, I strongly doubt there's a human ear capable of telling the difference.
This is the answer, I had a RAR 17HMR with a 22" barrel, I sold it and a Tikka 20" barrel and if there is any difference at all I could not tell it. Both are loud enough that you need plugs or muffs.

I think I'm deaf from reading this. Note....Hearing protection required for reading............

Ok I got it, hearing protection is required...I very rarely wear them, although I realize it's only to my own detriment....i bought the Tikka. And have an abundance of plugs in my work trailer which I will start wearing more times than never. Thanks folks

Dear Huntersuave , I was looking at the tikka t1x upr, I see no differences , than a updated stock and that's it. I was getting ready to the rimfire leap. I Google it ,and I like tikka's . I didnt see anything other updated stock. I was hoping for a nicer trigger , but heard was a nice trigger like the t1x. and adjustable to 1 or 2 lbs. , then change springs. I would like wooden stocks for the
T1x , and have seen those, and the r.f.c.'re just removed his wooden t3x stock , and worked beautifully for the t1x. I am still thinking ,I have a tax refund hopefully in the future. Buck

A buddy of mine and I both bought Savage 17hmr's. A total POS! I have the A17 model and it's completely unusable as it won't feed even a single round. At best, it's a clumsy single shot. I bought a T1X earlier this year and am beyond satisfied. Works great and shoots great. I'm not normally a Savage basher as I have several, but their 17's would be overpriced if they were free.
