id say 58 to 68.What is a good bullet weight for a 6BR with a 1/14 twist?
I used to shoot 74gr Bergers from one. Actually several... That was a great little bullet.68fb max
60 gr Sierra Varminter as good as any custom match bullet I have shot. I shoot a lot of 58 gr Vmax mostly because I can always buy them. Decent groups but not consistently small. I use 8208 powder only. Varget and R-15 are low in fps. H322 gives good speed. What is a good bullet weight for a 6BR with a 1/14 twist?
I have a 6mm BR with a Krieger 14 twist bbl. what is your load for H-335 with a 60 gr. sierra or a 58 V-max bullet & what primer do you like? thanks MikeGene Harwood sat a World Record with a 14T, 6BR, 24" Max heavy Varmint barrel in a registered BR match in the late 80's. He used his own 60g bullet with H335 and a Rem 7 1/2 primer, 3700 fps.
In my own 6 BR's with 14T, zero to .020 Free Bore, the 55g Nosler, 60g Sierra, all the old 62-65g Benchrest bullets made on .825 jackets shoot extremely well and very fast with H335 and AA2230.
When using H335 and AA2230, Barrel life with these two powders is between 6000-8000 rounds, shooting in the high 2's and low 3's at the 8000 round count but copper fouling is starting to get annoying.
As Webster stated, the 60g Sierra is just unbelievably accurate in this cartridge, and we shot thousands of them at ground squirrels and p. dogs.
The 65g V max gave me groups in the mid 2's at 3650 with H335 on a 27" 14T.
The 65g BIB bullet has a much better BC than the 60g Sierra and is worth building a rifle around. The 65g BIB also works very good on ground squirrels, p. dogs, and jack rabbits and coyotes.
As one other has stated, the 75g V max shot shotgun patterns in the 14T, but in the 12T shot ok, just had lousy trajectory. 75's worked well for me in a Slow twist Dasher and my favorite, the 6 BRX.
H335 and AA2230 will give double the barrel life of H322, learned this in a hurry. We carried a 5 gallon bucket of ammo for each rifle to the p. dog wars. Also, H335 and AA2230 are a LOT easier to clean out of the barrel than H322, what ever coating they put on the H322 is really tough to get out of a barrel with a 300 round shot string, where the H335 and AA2230 clean up pretty easy.
Hi Keith. I've pushed the Nosler 55 BTips to 3,850+ out of my 24" 6BR with a big dose of Re7. I'm hesitant to talk exact loads as the Re7 can vary a bit as you know.Al, my 27" long barrel 6 BR with zero freebore runs the 55g Nosler at 3900 fps, shooting very, very tiny groups, less than 1/4" on three shot groups. This is the accuracy node for my barrel.
I full length size on every firing.
300 yard groups are fantastic with the 55g Noslers, sub 1" easy in calmish winds. Trajectory diff between the 55g and the 70g Nosler ballistic tip makes you feel like the 70's are akin to a 45/70!
The 6 BRX and 6 Dasher with .030 freebore do 4100+ with extremes in accuracy with the 55's, AA2230.
