Forum Boss: The OP called Hornady a second time and got all the info he requested in a very satisfactory manner. See 4th and 6th posts below. We are, accordingly, locking this thread.

GetReal: OK, so I've never liked Hornady. I try to keep it to myself and not to constantly explain why or how much I dislike them in discussion forums but they sure earned it this time. My phone convo today....

Me: I got a question about your "Match" and "Black" loaded rounds, is it the same brass? Same case wall thickness, case volume, etc
Them: Yes, its all the same.
Me: I've checked all local and internet retailers... none avaialble. Do you have an approx. date when your brass cases will be released for general retail.
Them: We ship stuff all the time.
Me: Okay.... thanx....
Them: <click>

My apologies for expressing interest in your products and looking to purchase them. My bad for calling up your CUSTOMER SERVICE to ask questions only you can answer.

I'm hoping I don't come to regret this 6 ARC build.

Maybe the guy was having a bad day, but I guarantee you he sure left a bad impression of Hornady customer "service" ....

Sheesh

OK, your turn. What did the 2nd CSR say? ;)

Hoot

He went thru the lot #'s of loaded ammo I have, gave me manufacture dates (2020 and 2022, respectively) and explained that different lot #'s may have ever so slight variances, but nothing major. A relaoder himself, he understood my concerns and explained there have been no significant changes to the brass cases between lots. They are effectively the same, manufactured on the same production line.

re: the retail avaiability ?, he explained their major retailers (Cabelas, Midway etc) have a decided preference for loaded ammo over relaoading components, and brass cases being the most labor intensive component, there are challenges to getting reloading components out to retail.

That said.... they are tripling floor space on their component / reloaded ammo manufacture capacity, so they anticipate greater ability to meet demand in the near future.

Now THAT is customer *service.*

And, somehow they figured out that the answers you had first received weren't very helpful.

I know a lot of people that work for Hornady and know that they are making as much components and ammo as possible. There are a couple of people who work in their customer service who aren’t very good at their job, and unfortunately I’m related to one.

Here lately it seems absolutely all companies have asshats answering the phone.... I recently had two calls to Glock who normally is extremely helpful and the representatives I got should be written up and the other fired... I have flat given up and now like everything else , I will just fix it myself.... I guess it's true , you can't find people who want to work or have any pride in it....

So, I have 1250 6mm ARC cases....but none say 6 mm ARC on the case head. 250 of them have no head stamp at all, as they are Starline basic straight wall. The other one thousand say Starline 6.5 Grendel...all cases reformed. Can't wait for Hornady if ya want to shoot 6mm ARC, and at least they have been getting ELDM match bullets out the door more readily than other manufacturers. Even made 6mm ARC cases out of 308 Win brass...but that if a fair amount of steps not available to the average reloader, as you have to turn the solid head dia down and machine in a new extractor groove in the case head. But it can be done.

Your lucky you got a English speaking person on the phone at all, customer service in so many companies has gone to turd soup in the last several years. I hate attempting to call anyone these days if I can keep from it.
I called a well known place last week and got some foreign goober on the phone I couldn’t understand with roosters crowing in the phone, I hung up and decided I’d no longer do business with them.

They are trained to talk in riddles :)

In turd world countries!

I have noticed Hornady reloading components showing up on store shelves, more so than for some other brands, during these challenging times of shortages. Therefore I have to conclude that, at least to some extent, they were actually shipping some stuff out.

I wonder....had you spoke to the 2nd CSR 1st what your title of this thread would have been, or would you have posted a thread at all?
