I see some wild claims about 10/22 accuracy, everyone I have dealt with shaved lead like crazy, either the chamber or the bottom of the bolt damaging rounds in the magazine, eliminating those probs helps some, I have 2 friends who have Kidd rifles, set up with the best of everything.....the very best I ever seen one average at 50 was about .350" shooting 5 - 5 shot groups, not bad accuracy but not 1/2" at 100yds either. Custom BR builds do a bit better but not a lot.
Some Barrels, WILL shave Lead off the Bullet's Nose, UN-less you Radius the Face of the Barrel, a tiny bit at, the start of the Chamber's, Rim area. And, I use ONLY Ruger 10 Round Magazine's to avoid, the "Rocking" motion of, the 25 rounders that, usually, feed ammo, poorly.
I also, lightly Lapped my Green Mtn. Barrel and the Target Chamber at, the "Leade area" ( start of Rifling ) to allow me, to pull out, Live Rounds. Yup, she will only shoot, 5 shot group's, in the 3's and 4's at 50 yards, with medium priced, SK Std. plus, Pistol Match and Wolf Match Extra,.. NOT good enough for, Comp Targets !
The semi- custom, Ruger 10-22 that, I built, was designed for, Small Game like, Rabbits, Squirrels and Sage Rats, to 75- 85 ish yards and at, a mere, $850.00 it does that,.. "well".
