Deep Creek 1000 Yard Match 1 LG & HG Results, March 26, 2022

Congrats Alex, that is incredible shooting and tuning. I would be interested in what equipment you used if you wanted to share.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I really expected to see a 6" vertical paint stripe after the first one, I was just lucky it held tune for a second. But it finally broke out Sunday morning, I pulled a tenth out for target two which fixed it. Wish I would have done it for the first one too but I just had to see if it could do 3 lol.

The scoring looks like it was done properly.

Prior to the IBS aggregate scoring we had one target and a shoot-off. The group winner from each relay shot in the group shoot-off and the score winner shot in the score shoot-off. If the person that won group in a relay also had the best score they automatically shot in the group shoot-off. In that event the person in the same relay that was second in score went to the shoot-off for score. We could not win both group and score in the shoot-off, and if the same person was best in both group and score in a relay they could only win group SOY points with the second place score getting the SOY points for a relay win, and that is still in effect even for Nationals.

The aggregate scoring works the same way in limiting us to only one win per class, not both. The exception in this is the National Championships where you could win both group and score in each class.

I appreciate the explanation but I don’t like the rule. Give credit where credit is due. Nothing against Trystan, just how I feel about the scoring, just my opinion.

Dave.

I have mixed feelings about the rule. On one hand, I think it is nice to spread the winnings around a bit. On the other hand, I would have personally benefited this weekend if the scoring was straight up. I will have to take solace in the spreadsheet.

Regardless, the big picture for me: I am happy with however they do it if it allows me to shoot and compete...

Though I do wonder if I might have earned DCDS status this weekend......

If a guy shoots that well you’d think he has earned the win in both group and score. Holy mackerel he shot a perfect score and an 1.625” agg at 1000 yards. Thats a great result for 600 yards, it’s incredible at 1000, congratulations Alex on an outstanding demonstration of marksmanship.

Alex, it was a chain of events that I will not forget it was and is a exciting "ride" and I'm really proud to have been apart of the efforts, keep pushing keep striving this is what it's all about congratulations. those 1"ers clean up alot of shit now stop shooting those 6"ers lol

Wish I could say it wont happen again lol. Like we talked, I doubt I will make every match this year. I intended to try and shoot some small ones and we know that those kind of tunes run the risk of "blowing up". It will be at the expense of the agg, no doubt about it. After a couple matches I'll probably sell it to someone who will put it the effort this rifle deserves. I enjoy the small details that go into the build and the tuning, once that is done I do get a little bored with them. This one may stick around longer than most though ;)

Congrats Alex, nice shooting. I appreciate the commentary about being on the edge of the tune. You shot on the razor's edge. I've learned so much from you and Shawn about tuning and being on the ragged edge. I'd really like to read more about how you manage the tune as you go into this season with temps and humidity changing. I'd really like to be schooled about this. Are you gunna push for an agg or for a record? Cheers BB

We call them the hero or zero tunes. If you push it, its gonna be tiny or blow up. I have a 14 year old dog that has had seizures for the last 8 years or so. They are getting worse and I knew I would miss matches this year, my dog comes before anything else. So I am happy to shoot a couple small ones. The agg is gonna be hurt by missing matches. I am at a point that shooting small groups is fun, it can be at deep creek or here in dillon. I dont have anything to prove.

The tunes your asking about are not what Id normally chase. Normally I would want a mid 2" vertically shaped group with some wiggle room on powder charge. This rifle showed me it would shoot a zero at 1k if I nailed it but the window was small. A primer change or powder lot would get me back to more of an agging tune or "safe" tune. Im just playing around so I dont mind some big ones. But the more I think about it the more I realize this ones wasted on me and needs to be in more serious hands.

Alex,

You missed my birthday by a couple weeks but I don’t mind late presents!

Dave.
