Gary, if you are willing to take the ride, look up Bob White @ Shooters Corner in NJ. He has been very good to me, and I believe his work to be very good. He is or was a benchrest competitor, and is still active teaching, etc. If you prefer, as suggested, you can ship to some exceptional smiths anywhere in the US. Up to you.
I go see Bob ;-)

A second on Bob White at Shooters Corner. I used to live in NY and regularly brought my barrel work to him. Now I'm in SC and I still send my work to him. He charges a fair price and has always done good work for me. The last barrel he did for me a Kreiger chambered in 7mm Shehane for my F open gun is a hummer.
Bob is a great guy and one heck of a benchrest shooter.

Yes, UPS & the USPS do run by my house, but they are the worst!
Mail or packages are lost, crushed or open, with claims taking for ever.
I can tell you do not live in socailist NE and are lucky to live were people do thier jobs.
So having someone within driving distance is nice, with shipping as my second choice.
I will give Bob a call.
Thanks all for responding.

Yea, I’m not much on shipping valuable items right now if it can be avoided.

Try Moe Defino over in either Brookfield or New Milford, see if he is still doing work. If Jimmy Myers was still around it would be a no brainer.
You could always take a ride up to Autumm Gun Works and ask Chris for a recommendation, I'm sure he knows of one or two, and he is only a few minutes from you.

Jim Meyers moved to FL years ago, he built my 6mm HLS, 6mm Remington, 308 and 300 Win Mag target rifles for me.
Gunsmith Moe, uses Steve, is not working right know.
That is why I am asking for recommendations.

You can give Josh at Patriot Valley Arms a call. He is a little drive but not bad from CT. I used to live up in Groton. I always sent my work out as there really wasn't anyone local.
