Clamp on barrel bipod

Has anyone ever used one of these clamp on barrel bipod? I got it real cheap, seems sturdy and is made of metal with extendable legs. But I worry about the barrel getting hot and melting the rubber-ish grip pad inside the clamp. 20220227_172458.jpg20220227_172845.jpg20220227_172920.jpg

I would think you would have to be doing a lot of rapid shooting to melt any rubber. The barrel would have to be about too hot to touch. I wouldn't want anything touching my barrel though. Especially if the action is bedded. Without keeping consistent pressure on the attachment point of the bi pod I would think POI will change. Maybe not. I guess you would have to try it out.

Yea mine isn't bedded.i have an old cracked stock I going to try it on first

Do a You Tube search for "Barrel Harmonics" and watch a few of them. Really amazing what motions our barrels go through. Then ask yourself if you want to hang anything off your barrel.

All good advice is not to have anything touching your barrel, even leaning the barrel on something, like a limb, blind ledge, etc. can change the POI.
Attach the bipod to the sling nut, on the bottom of your stock, not the barrel, if you are going to use one.

The problem you will run into is when you properly preload the bi pod. Uphill, down hill, etc you will never apply the same pressure to the barrel. It can and will cause poi shifts with that weight of barrel.

I ended up getting a Harris style bipod that clamps on to the sling swivel instead of the barrel. It's much better and more consistent.

accuracy with the barrel clamp on wasn't to bad as long as I used my other hand to lift up slightly so there wasn't any weight on the barrel. The thing I didn't like about the barrel clamp one is that it would slide down the barrel and become loose as hell.
