Guys with Class

Nothing worse ( in my humble opinion) than some guy coming on the main board when a party is selling something at a FAIR price, AND says...I'll give ya xx amount for it..lowball normally. Instead of PMing the seller and keeping it off the main board and saying( are you guys listening) Are you firm on your price? Now that is class. We now have opened the gate and either the seller says ,nope sorry, fair price I'll just hold. OR, well maybe we can work this out some. Spmetimes you have to take a hit on something your selling and lose,it happens. Because their are the other times we made A small profit,or broke even ...goes both ways. That my friends is horse trading. I better go close that gate, dont want the horse to get out.

And then there's a few folks looking for something for nothing. I won't even bother to reply.
If I wanted to "give it away", I would have taken it to Good Will!

Got Sisters house FULL of collected BIG $$$$ stuff. She enjoyed spending her money.
No kids so she had Dolls, LOTS of Dolls. Anywhere from $350.00 to $500.00 a pop and never gave it a second thought. Expensive tastes. ;)
She made it and she spent it.:D And she made damn sure she didn't run out of anything.
Only problem? Mikie has to get rid on it. :(
Ebay WAS my place of choice till they wanted my account info. (not gunna happen, EVER!!
NOW, Hospice, Meals on Wheels, Good Will and the Senior Center Thrift shops are getting a wind fall of goodies. And I don't even bother to get a receipt, just glad to move the STUFF.

Got a couple of Muzzleloaders for sale on another forum. Got one guy asking ??
Like to see it FTF? My pictures wern't good enough? The price is $$$$ and I would even knock of $50.00 for shipping if FTF came about.
I could feel it coming ahead of time so I added, you know my price and if FTF you come at me with a low ball offer, you'll see my tail lights. CRICKET, CRICKET, CRICKET. Must have called it right. Mikie don't play those games.
Didn't get this old by being stupid. ;) And most of us that have been around here any length of time are known by their reputation. I can't shake your hand over the PC but I damn sure wouldn't try to screw you over the same. :)

I've seen more than a few times someone lowball a seller hard on the open forum. It just makes me cringe. You wonder if these same guys would ask you how much you make within minutes of meeting you. Nothing wrong with asking about the price but do it in a pm and dont expect someone to give it away!

I listed a tool for $50 bucks. Got a few messages "40" "30?" None bothered to add words or establish rapport other than to try to get a lower price. I responded with "60" "70" and one guy even acknowledged that I countered his disrespect in a very creative way.

Sure wish I could afford your asking price... is that firm?

Geez if I had that thing I could take my son hunting... too bad I can't afford it. Do you think I could work out an arrangement with you?

Establish rapport. Engage in conversation. Don't be a douche.

Every so often, I see a gun or barreled action for sale for a price much higher than I can build it using brand new parts. Then I read how it has “only 1500 rounds down the tube”, in a known barrel burning cartridge.
As much as I want to post a sarcastic comment, I have managed to bite my tongue and move on. I have seen those instances where someone made such a comment. I think we have had a new influx of members from other sites where the behavior is accepted as “normal”. I think some other sites have started charging a “tax” on sales and they’re enjoying our “tax free” classifieds. Whatever the reason, it’s good to have a thick skin when the Neanderthals are in the house!

Key word in this post is "fair price". With that qualifier I agree entirely. If its not a fair price a subtle nudge pointing toward market price never killed anyone. Still better to inform them they are above market in a PM because they may just be unaware of where the market is at or they got bent over when they bought it and can't take a hard hit on it. Key to everything is to treat others the way you want to be treated.

I don't want to fleece nor be fleeced. Please inform me if I am engaging in a sale that does either. You will be doing me a favor.

If I see an item at a fair price, I buy it. If it is high, I simply move on. I don't haggle. When selling, I put a fair price on the item, if asked to reduce the price- I go up! After it goes up it will not come back to original price for that buyer. Don't try to screw me and I guarantee I will not try that on you. I guess I'm a "Golden Rule" kind of guy.

Over the weekend I saw an item for sale on
classifieds for $275. Later in the day there was a post I’ll pay you $150. Private message should have been sent IMO.
Differently a public low ball offer.

lol. Yep, that was my ad it was done to. I actually did lower the price for the guy that bought it, simply because he asked me very politely via PM what my best price was. After a few PMs back and forth, he seems like a really good person - so I don't mind.

I dont care what people try to sell something for. If someone buys it then it was obviously an acceptable price to them. If it doesnt sell then the seller will keep it or lower the price. None of us our price police although in my short time here I have seen a lot of that in the classifieds as well as asking questions with no intent to buy. If the seller doesnt give enough info PM or move on. A well crafted sale ad is part of selling a product let the seller figure it out.

I think I frugal, maybe even cheap. Worked hard for me money and before I buy, have done my research. That said, I would hope the same can be said for the person I am buying from. Have no interest in taking advantage of another person's hardship. If I contact you, I have the money, and my research tells me the deal is fair for both sides.
