VV-N130 is looking pretty good in my rifle Shot this group about a week ago that measures .169 over caliber. 112 GR. BARTS F B/M 34.5 GR. VV-N130 CCI BR-4 SEATED @1.580 O M 2.270 COL .005 OTL .324 BUSHING followed by a .306 mandrel. The old AA2015 BR will work, so will Reloder 7 and Benchmark. Forget H4350 it's way too slow. Just buy some N130. Powder Valley has 8 pounders available, but you can only buy one which to me is a joke but if you don't have any H4198, N130 is the next best powder that u can use in a 30BR.
That's a good group but just make sure that it is repeatable for 3 to 4 groups. If you chronoed it I guarantee your speed would be on the low side. When I use to shoot 130 It was between 35.5 and 36 grains. That load that you have might be good in mild conditions but when the conditions change to where is starts blowing that load will fail you miserably.VV-N130 is looking pretty good in my rifle Shot this group about a week ago that measures .169 over caliber. 112 GR. While techniquely you are correct about more velocity meaning less wind deflection that is a minor part of the equation. Knowing what your load does in a given wind/flag condition is what makes the difference in winners and also rans. I will take a super tuned slower load any day over a fast load that is not quite as precise and rely on my ability or lack there of to hold the proper spot. If your hold off is 1/4 or 1/2 it's irrelevant if you can't figure it out correctly. Speed kills....both ways. That's a good group but just make sure that it is repeatable for 3 to 4 groups. Yea I will spend some time with it and work up a little. I really want to see if it is repeatable no doubt. My go to load is 34.7 gr. of H-4198 with that 112 Barts. That's a good group but just make sure that it is repeatable for 3 to 4 groups. I test all my loads at my house which is on the side of a little mountain and 90% of the time the wind is strong and I shoot over flags, probes and a chronograph. I usually will use the upper proven node over a lower node. I won't go to the line with a upper node that I haven't proved to work. Even though I missed the 1st 3 month's of shooting last year where I finished in the standings last year and in most of my matches proves that my rifles and loads are working to where I might not win every match, but I'll be in the top 5 over 85% of the time. The way I look at it I can back up what I'm saying by my match results. I'm not saying I'm Joe super shooter because I am not. I've come in 2nd, 3rd and 4th too many times because of dumb mistakes that rookies make. I'd be a better shooter if I took this game more seriously and not be there to shoot the shit and have fun joking around with some of the other competitors. While techniquely you are correct about more velocity meaning less wind deflection that is a minor part of the equation. I would use N130 because it is available, IMO it works better than LT30 and it's 40 bucks cheaper than LT30.Right now LT-30 is available I would use it for the simple reason you can find it and it works
Thanks Jeff. The beginning of last year was tough on me. Watching my mom die right in front of me after taking care of her for the last 2 and 1/2 years was tough. I vowed that I would try to do good at every match for her. I ended up being first loser in points but finishing 2nd to Cline wasn't a bad thing. He's a tough competitor and a Hell of a lot better shooter than I'll ever be. But it is what it is. All I can do is give it my best.JimPag, your the guy I always advise new shooters to seek out. The guy who is always in the hunt. The guy that wins twice a summer and 60% of the time is in the lower 2/3s is not who to look to for advice. And good advice you gave.....always shoot over flags and shoot in the wind. Don't always shoot at daylight or dusk too shoot in the calm, little learned then. Good luck this coming season.
XMR 2015 doesn't work well at all. It's too slow compared to the old 2015BR. Have tried both over my chrorograph.Accurate 1680 works, XMR 2015, Re 7. N130 by the 8 lb still available at PV. In the absence of H4198 imo its your best alternative. H322 would be my second but it seems anything with the Hodgdon name on the can is really scarce.
