No love for Ruger?

I never see anyone here modifying a Ruger. I had a Target-Varmint 22-250 that was a hammer! The bolt was a bit sloppy but other than that it looked well made. Not many aftermarket parts?
Just wondering.

I love the old M77 tang safety rifles for hunting/carry rifles. They are just flat-out comfortable for me.

I don't know about, and have never owned any newer Ruger product. jd

I have a 77 Mark ll that I “tuned” with a premium barrel, respring and polish. Also redid the stock with a hand rubbed oil finish. Shoots well under 1/2 moa. 2.5 lbs crisp trigger. Magazine box and barrel are both free floated which is important. It is my favorite rifle and I did the work myself instead of bolting on new parts. It’s a 260 rem. Far more enjoyable than building a full custom imo.

Had 3 M77’s. .270 Win, 7x57, and 6.5x55. Gave up getting decent groups out of the whole lot. Ruger even re-barreled the 7x57 for me, and when it still didn’t shoot to my liking, said their accuracy standards for that caliber is 3” at 75 yards. That doesn’t interest me. Regrettably sold them all.

Had a beautiful #1 in 30-06. Never could get it to shoot less than 2 MOA.

Every ruger I have had in the last 10 years has been back to the factory for repair in the first month or so I have had it. Same with Savage rimfires. Seems like my beloved brands are all going downhill in the QC department.

I have one Ruger.. A 22-77 in 22 Hornet. Yup had to send it out and spend $200 to get it to shoot decent.. First and last.

Maybe I am lucky. I bought a Ruger 6.5CM RPR when they first came out. It shoots pretty good, for a factory rifle, usually 1/2 MOA or better. After 1465 rounds, I sent it back to the factory and had the barrel replaced. I was going to go for a premium barrel, but since the original barrel shot so good I stuck with the Ruger. I was not disappointed.

I know that some of you will have fun bashing the 6.5 CM round.

Back in the early 90s I got a Ruger M77 Target Model in 6MM PPC that was a real shooter. My girlfriend bought it for me. Let both the rifle and her get away. But that Ruger was a gateway drug to a Sako 6MM PPC then a Hall 6MM PPC which led to Benchrest Matches at Rachel's Glen which eventually led to a vast number of rifle-related, expensive, time-consuming addictions including the real hard stuff, F-Class matches. That damn Ruger changed my life.

They're probably selling the hell out of what they already make. Given Ruger's pace getting stuff to market after announcing it, I'm not sure that's a bad thing. They've also likely got their hands full getting Marlin back up to speed

My first rifle was an old M77 25-06 and it's always been a shooter. In fact one of the best shooting factory guns I've ever owned. Had it close to 40 years now I guess and you could probably dang near fill a train car with the game it's harvested. I do have the barrel floated and action is bedded. Years later I added a 308 also a tang safety model. I love those old rifles, both are the heavy barrels. Dont care for the newer ones with the bolt safety. The triggers are fine for hunting rifles.

I like the single shots too but in my experience aren't as consistent of shooters as the older bolt actions. I think it's the flimsy tang that holds the forearm and allows it to flex the barrel. They should have made that forearm support much heavier so those barrels can full float. My 25-06 #1 has a heavy barrel and is the best shooting one I own. It also has an aftermarket trigger kit in it too.

Regarding newers Ruger rifles I have no experience with the M77 but I have a Ruger American chambered in 308 I bought for a cheap truck gun (never know when a ground hog or coyote needs to be taken out on around the farms) and I am totally impressed how it shoots for a cheap rifle. I got it on sale for just over 300 bucks a few years ago at Rural King and found a display new Leupold Redfield scope in the bargain bin at our local Cabelas. Total setup with burris rings was less than 500 bucks and it's a great rifle and I can pull it out of the truck and use it with confidence.

I can't complain about mine. I have a 77MKII Target Model that I had a HART barrel installed on.

It shoots good enough for me.

Tika is off my list. Had one. Wouldn't shoot. Would shoot, Wouldn't shoot, would shoot. New stock, etc etc.. Tried this trieds that. Finally... Sold it..
