New to forum have been reloading 40+ years

I learned to reload back in 75 by reloading shot gun shells. Learned from an armorer who ran a USCG range at Curtis Bay MD. Then I learned reloading 45 APC, 30/06 and blanks for line throwing guns 30/06 too. Back then the hulls were just discarded and thrown in the scrap yard. The 1911 45 and a Rugar 30/06 M77 were my first guns. It was funny the USCG bought the dies, powder and primers. The reloading was part of the Hobby shop funded through MWR.

Eventually, I bought my own dies, powders, and primers as I was transferred. I bought all used stuff initially and had it for years until I could afford new. Several years ago, I decided to downsize from 15 different rounds to 5 rounds. Currently I reload 45/70, 30/30, 40 cal. s&w, .500 s&w, and 12 gauge. I sold my other rifles and pistols as they are just things. I also cast my own heads in various weights.

Back in February 2020 before I retired, I was working as a contractor at a site. The range guys were talking about a notice that got and would need to conserve their ammo. So, knowing that they knew something was in the works. We all at that point started stocking up and good thing.

Welcome to the forum.

I started downsizing last year to consolidate component inventory and simplify things preparing at some point to move into much small living quarters. I conducted a serious analysis of what do I really need, and do I really need everything I have and more importantly - do I use it. It was liberating.

You are spot on saying they are "only things." We come into the world with nothing and leave with nothing."

The old adage seems to apply to old guys like me, "We spend the first part of our life accumulating things and the last part giving them away."

Welcome! It’s good to have you on board! A lot of guys could use your advice!
There seems to be a plethora of boating accidents where guys are losing all their guns. Watch out, tho! We have a Pirate!
What kind of 45/70 do you shoot? I have a couple I load lite for.

I have a Henry Model Number H010B brass receiver and octagon barrel. I have Iron sites can group 1-2 inches at 100 yards. I typically shoot HCFNGC 350, 380 and 500 grain rounds at little over 2400fps. I have a bunch of Hornady 325 FTX which have been shooting at 2800 fps when loaded to max. Currently using LT-30 powder has the same burn rate at IMR4198 however, it burns cleaner.
