Nitride finish for stainless action

Hi,

Curious as to whether or not I can have a stainless steel Defiance Tenacity action black nitride finished?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase one, and I think I would prefer it black.

Also open to opinions as to why I should leave it stainless.

I have a black nitride finish on my Tenacity. H&M did it.

Altus sells them with the nitride finish already done. If they're out of stock, call them.

If you don't mind the wait, you can order it nitrided and let Defiance handle it. It is a lot less trouble than getting it and sending it out for yourself. If you don't see enough information on the website, call them.
I have ordered from other distributors, but I really prefer going directly to Defiance to get the exact options I want.

Have you considered a black DLC coating?

Nitride isn't really a finishing process, it is a heat treatment process. The metal does turn black, sort of, from the process.

I sent my tenacity to H&M in Arizona. Strip it down and $200, you'll get it back in about 10 days.
Don't send the pins and springs

Nitride reduces the chances of galling in stainless considerably, if you want a black finish that's just an added benefit. I prefer chrome molly and a blued finish. BAT does it. I'm not sure if other manufacturers do or not. No galling issues with chrome molly and the finish is beautiful

True, but his stainless action has a chromoly bolt.

All actions have a cm bolt. Dissimilar metals still gall. Hardness is the sure way to stop it. I dont think it would be possible to gall a nitrided action.

Thx. I wasn't aware of that. In the pistol world, you can have slides and frames in stainless.

When the action opens that relieves a lot of pressure kinda like somebody pushing you out in the open street or pushing you while you stand against a wall

In pistols I still usually avoid it because they do gall. I've had that problem on more than a few all stainless guns, especially ones that are tighter fitting.
