6 & 6.5 Creedmoor Hangfire

Mostly, but there are occasional reports of a few powders suffering this in more normal temperatures. This is likely to be a combination of primer flame characteristics and how easy / hard the powder is to ignite.

Not Creedmoor, but I got this with Italian Fiocchi SR primers and Hodgdon CFE-223 in 308 Win Lapua Palma brass in temperatures around 15-deg C (59 F).

Thanks.

FWIW: I've read other reports of it in 308 Palma w/ CFE as well, I think it was on a UK Target Shooter page.

Is the small rifle primer (non-magnum) hang fire issue with 6 & 6.5 Creedmoor only an issue in cold temps?
Videos on U-tube by Johnny's Reloading Bench goes into very good testing with 6.5 Creedmoor and several powders & primers. Lots of good info there.

Increased neck tension/bullet hold may help? https://apps.dtic.mil/docs/citations/ADA341390 See link, bottom of page.

I have some of the old Wolf Magnums that hang fire in a 6.5 creedmoor with H4350, no issues with other smalls, CCI and Federal. The Wolfs do fine in smaller cases so I just use them for that. I’ve gotten stupid low ES and SD with them fire forming 6BRA cases.

I *think* the Wolf magnum were just a regular primer with a thicker cup, at least it was that way with the LR primers, so the hang fire issue would seem consistent.

Know of another guy and myself who had problems with CCI450 a couple of years ago, and read of others too. Seating them harder than normal helped quite a bit.
