30 br robinett reamer ???

Randy told me if there was one thing he could change about the 30BR, its that he wished it would hold one more grain of powder. Plus I like 40 degree shoulders :)
No 18 on my bucket list. Form a 30BR case off the 284
Winchester brass, Just about all my short cats are based
off this case, More new ground to dispute. Instead of one
extra grain you may get three.

Alex.....Was there any thought about blowing the case further
forward and using a shorter neck to gain capacity ??

The 30 Dasher already exists, you should be able to find some data on those. I wouldnt do the 284 case, the primer pockets will limit your pressures.

Wouldn't that put you in the area of the 30 Remington AR? That's 1.53 case length holding 44gr H2O before blowing the 25 deg shoulder to 40 deg, which would gain you a little more capacity.

Just postulating...

bullets are not seated deep enough for a doughnut to be an issue with a 30 br
The donut being discussed is the external donut ( aka 'the lump') that forms at the neck/shoulder junction after necking the 6 to .30 that measures in the general area of .337...here's a pic of what it looks like:

A .338-.339 'no turn' neck on a 30BR in an attempt to get around neck turning (for whatever reason ) is a guaranteed loser for accuracy. There's no single bigger way to ruin a fine a fine cartridge like the 30BR. A close second place in the 'accuracy killer department' is excessive freebore and excessive free bore diameter (even with correct free bore length).

Combine those two areas with sub-par bullets and you'll have the Trifecta Of Trash when it comes to accuracy. ;)

Good shootin' -Al

I worked with the 30BRX quite a bit (30BR with the shoulder blown forward .100). Here's a pic of mine next to a standard 30BR.

It does everything like the 30BR with enough case capacity to get to the next tuning node with H4198.

Good shootin'. -Al

i fire form my brass, not expand...so not an issue...moving on

If you guys want to try this the print is available from JGS. Its my 30BRA. Its nothing exotic, it will use a Harrell's D3 sizing die with the neck opened up and a 30 cal bushing. I did go short on the chamber length because I believe you make better cases when they shrink up VS stretching the brass to ke how much you shortened the chamber?

Just wondering about how much you shortened the chamber?

Did any of your guys who tried 30BR improved case designs, find that the extra velocity up around 3200 fps gave you better(less) windrift resulting in better scores?
