Looking for a Lever Gun -- Which one?

I have a 444. It is brutal to shoot with full house loads. BUT, with cast bullets it is a very pleasant hoot to shoot. It is also extremely accurate, easily less than an inch at 100 yards.

My buddy has a small pawn shop and i buy every JM marlin and win 94 that comes in. Seems like one of my friends are always wanting one. Now im on the lookout for a no safety mod 94 top eject for a little plan i have. I have a 336rc from 1967 with the well loved patina that shoots well under an inch (if i do my part).

Since I haven't paid any attention to levers in a very long time and I am now in my mid 70's instead of my late 20's recoil is important, If i could reach out to say 125/150 yards with black bear power and not beat my shoulders up to much,

Find a Marlin 336 carbine in 35 Remington. 158g pistol bullets to 220g FN.
Pigs to Moose.

You need this one ,94, 444M
11 total rounds fired

My candidate would be a savage model 99 in 250-3000. Very easy in the recoil department and always eager to to please in the accuracy department. This combo will drop your deer at rock throwing distance out to 300 yards with ease. Been there and done it but not with a savage 99.I have not bought one.....yet.

I'm in charge of my fathers Winchester model 94 30-30. Sits in the back of the safe, need to bring it out and fire a few rounds I loaded to see if it still kicks like a mule when I was young. I loaded some flat nose Berrys and have a box of FTX to try out also.

Always had an itch for the Henry octagon barrel, gold receiver lever guns. Reminiscent of the old western movie guns. The movie Silverado where Danny Glover carried one. I always loved those rifles. Practical they are not if your gonna use it for hunting which is exactly what I'd use it for. Very shiny and reflective. Always thought if I did get a lever gun, that would be it. Maybe in 44-40 or 45-70. Love to kill with it using irons. I have some real good food plots with shots only out to 50 yards that would be perfect for this kind of rifle. I have a Marlin 336C in 35 Rem. Don't think I've ever shot it. Passed down from my father. Need to get it out to the range and play with it.

Waffle top 336's from late 1940's and early 50's are a real joy. Ballard style rifling, smooth actions and most have a decent trigger to boot.
Fast forward a couple decades and the Winchester 88 is a good rifle too.

The first "deer' rifle I bought for myself was a Marlin 336 in 30-30, back in the Mid 80's, when I moved to the UP of MI. Where I lived previously you could only hunt with a shotgun. It was amazingly accurate right out of the box, with factory ammo - 1 moa @ 100 yds. was not unusual at all. Today my daughter-in-law uses that gun and has taken several very nice bucks with it, all one-shot kills.

Give yourself a Christmas present! Get that gun out and shoot it! I just did that with my father’s old Remington pump gun and my Grandfather’s old Winchester.
It warmed my heart.

For a do almost everything Lever Rifle, a removeable mag lever gun in 243 Winchester will get you Varmints to Mule deer.
I have a dream of N.Y. marmots and Wyoming antelope with my Finnwolf.

I have been out of lever guns since the late 1960's, the last one was a .35 Remington that was a good black bear rifle. Dusty fixed my not thinking of them with the Marlin/Ruger thread. Now I am lusting for one, no I don't need one I just want one. I have plenty of rifles for sale because i don't shoot them, but here I am looking again.

Since I haven't paid any attention to levers in a very long time and I am now in my mid 70's instead of my late 20's recoil is important, If i could reach out to say 125/150 yards with black bear power and not beat my shoulders up to much, (both are in bad shape), I would simply wait for Ruger to bring one out.

No .45/70's, for sure but something I can find brass or ammo for will work fine . So what do you guys think? I haven't looked at any ballistics yet but I am thinking something like the .44 mag simply because it's popular in this area and there should be brass around here.

Thanks dusty I had forgotten how much fun that old .35 Remington was.
Try to find a Win. 88. They were available in .243, .284 .308 & 358 Win. Bring lots of money. I have had 2-88's in .284, and a .243 carbine. All Magazine fed. The safety is where it should be... forward of the trigger, not behind it...) like on a Rem. pump.
