I’ve been wanting to shoot some 140gr cast bullets out of my 6.5 Carcano however, the only powders my Lyman manual recommends are Unique and 2400 can’t find those anywhere for over a year.
6.5x54 a case so similar to the 6.5x52 that I can trim 2mm off the neck and it fits perfectly and has been done in the past. I see loads for it using the same cast bullet at 19 grains, I dropped it to 18 grains for the Carcano.
I’d like to sling these rounds and see how they do, however I’d like to run this by y’all to see if this is a common safe reloading practice?
I know a charge too low can cause weird pressure signs, however this is probably with jacketed bullets as they take much more force to push than a cast bullet. I am also not going in blind on the experiment, as another Carcano shooter has told me he had done this exact same thing.
Also, I have some H4895 on the way which is safe for 60% max reduced loads. However, I’d just like to see how the IMR stuff works too.
