The Difference

Received my order from Powder Valley today the Hornady 224/68 grain. They are stage left. The bullet as seated is a mild jam in the lands. I was hoping they would be a closer fit than the round to the right, the Sierra 52 grain HPBT which is .060 off the lands as seated. The rifle for both is the Savage 112 in 223.

I am confused (happens often). Not sure what a good fit is, Set up on right of pic looks fine. Longer bullet on the left needs a throater ran in to open up free bore if that's the bullet your planning on using. Pressure ring should be kept above the shoulder neck junction.

The shorter is jumping .060 with the pressure ring half way the neck. The longer is seated deeper than I like but can't be seated longer. Like Jeff said the longer round needs more free bore.

Can’t do that when loading mag length. Never seemed to matter to service rifle shooters. ( if I understand what pressure ring means)

True. I shoot all single shots, only criteria is accuracy. You did not mention a magazine .

The short round on the right is too long for the mag so it will be a single load affair which is fine for this rifle.
