Thoughts on the re-released H&K SL8?

I held one for the first time yesterday. It felt interesting and had a unique look to it. I have an HK USC .45 and like it a lot, but I am wondering if anyone here has experience with an SL8 and can share thoughts on SL8 vs. an AR platform. Is the SL8 just different and that is what makes it fun?

Also, I see it rated for .223. Does it take 5.56? I can't find citable specs that support 5.56...

If H&K using European specs, then it should run both. CIP doesn't distinguish a difference between 5.56 and .223 (at least according to CZ's literature). They're basically all 5.56 over there from what I understand. I wonder if @Laurie would have a more definitive explanation

I just read that it has to be modified to take double stack mags. No thanks. German Guns are nice and well made but I’d rather have 2 Rock Rivers.

They are pricey. I had one a long time ago. Very nice rifle. Accurate, functioned perfectly. I don’t think I will ever have another but I regret letting it go.

I just helped a friend move to Delaware! I wanted them in Texas! C’mon down! You have to sit down and ask the question: What am I willing to live with? I did.....and I moved! It’s a pain and expensive, but I’ll recover the cost in 2 years with the tax relief. I love it down here! Nice people all over.
If I pull a gun out of my trunk down here, guys come over and ask: “What you got there? Nice!” Back in Delaware...they run.

Would be nicer if they accepted STANAG magazines. The STANAG mag well adapter is a couple hundred bucks. Add that to the >$1600 for the SL8. I've also read that the ATF would require you replace a few other parts, but can't confirm that.

Think I could build a very nice AR for that much money.
