Did you Know?

I recently was made aware of a story by the Smithsonian regarding the origin of the Star Spangled Banner. I was made aware of this by a YouTube posted by a couple that have since left Britain and moved have moved to the USA. Their story is not what I am referring to, but the story originally I have determined is from David C Gibbs, a preacher. Regardless of the stories potential inaccuracies, the essence is still important. Most definitely more important today as we face a threat from internally.

If for some reason YouTube does not allow connection for some reason here is the connection to story by Mona Rose.

Here is the story from the Smithsonian.

I don't know about you, but hearing the first rendition of this story, given our current situation, brought tears to my eyes.

God Bless American and God bless everyone!

Do not comply as compliance is, at least in my mind, spitting in the eyes of those who have sacrificed so much.

Sadly, I have never heard that portion of the song. Means so much more today. Both the wife and I teared up on that one. Why is it that we never hear that part?

Thank you for sharing that.

That prompted me to see what else I might have missed. Here is the complete accurate text of the Star Spangled Banner. If anyone is interested.

Complete Accurate Text of “The Star-Spangled Banner”

“The Star-Spangled Banner,” originally “In Defence of Fort McHenry”
by Francis Scott Key
O say can you see by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation.
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the Heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Those Americans inside the fort were brave, committed, and determined. It is hard to fathom.
The epitome of Duty, Integrity, and Respect.
If ever in a similar situation, I hope I can muster half the courage those folks had. WOW!

I never served, something that I am ashamed of, but I have always wondered how I would act in those situations. In my younger days, I was sure I would act accordingly, but as I have gotten older, I question that more and more. Having never served, I guess I will never know.
